SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, February 12, 1920.
The Council Met with all of the following members present, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, and Haynes. Councilman Ward absent. The Council then adjourned out of respect to former Mayor Lewis Hancock. Notice of whose death had just been learned.
The Council then adjourned.
REGULAR SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, February 12th, 1920.
Roll call was ordered by the Mayor, and the following members answered present, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward. The minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Graham were adopted by the following vote, Mayor Yett ACouncilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward. Councilman Alford recommended F.L. Gallemore, Emory Hornsby and Dan Fallon for positions in the Fire Department to succeed Nolan Miller, Otis Scarbrough and Alex Abramson, resigned. Nominations were confirmed by the following vote, Mayor Yett, Councilman Graham, Haynes and Ward. Councilman Alford present but not voting. The Mayor laid before the Council the following Resolution:
RESOLUTION. Be it resolved by the City Council that the permit heretofore granted to the Gulf Refining Company to erect a filling Gasoline Station on 46 feet out of lots four (4) and five (5) be and the same is hereby rescinded and that permission is hereby granted said Gulf Refining Co., to erect said filling station on forty-six (46) feet out of lots three (3) and four (4) in Block six (6) of the City of Austin. The above Resolution was adopted by the following vote, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward. The applications of R.C. Stovall and John R. McCall to operate service cars were granted by the following vote, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward.

309 Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution, Austin, Texas, Feby. 12,1920 RESOLUTION Whereas it appears from statement of the members of the Board of Equalization herewith attached that an error was made by said Board in raising the valuation of the stock of merchandise owned by L.D. Lyons, January 1st, 1920, from $1200 to $2000 and that the valuation should be placed at the original assessment of $1200. Therefore be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin, that the Assessor and Collector be and is hereby authorized to correct said assessment to $1200.00 on his rolls and to take credit for the sum of $800 the amount erroneous valuation. H.L. Haynes. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward. 2/10/1920.

Hon. H.L. Haynes, Comm. Finance & Accounts, Austin, Texas/ Dear Sir:- Referring to assessment of the Stock of Merchandise to L.D. Lyons for 1919, we the undersigned members of the Board of Equalization beg to say, after further inspection and consideration, we are convinced there was error made in placing the value of said stock at $2000.00 and would respectfully suggest that the Council give the relief requested. We are of the opinion that the original assessment of $1200.00 is just and fair. James Belger, Pres. Aug. Weilbacher.

The monthly report of J.D. Platt, City Marshall, C.L. Woodward, Chief of Fire Department, J.F. Woody, City Fire Marshall, Miss Nellie M. Hall, Secetary United Charities, Mrs. E. Schulz, Matron of City Hospital, James H. Maxwell, Inspector Weights and Measures; and J.A. Warren, Bookkeeper and Cashier of Street Department, were read and ordered filed.

The following resolution was introduced by Councilman H. L. Haynes. R E S O L U T I O N. After an honorable and useful life, Lewis Hancock has passed from earth. His days began and ended in the city he loved and served. As our tribute to his worth, Lewis Hancock We, the City Council, hereby express our lasting esteem for his memory and our high estimate of him as an honest and highminded citizen and a modest and cultured gentleman. He will be remembered as Mayor of Austin for his intelligent and forceful administration of public affairs. His life has been worth while, and we mourn his loss with the whole community. It is resolved, that a page of the minutes of this body be set apart to record this expression of our grief, that same may be permanently preserved in the public archives, as is befitting the honored dead.
