831 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: AUSTIN, TEXAS, March 18, 1920. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward,5; nays, none. Councilman Haynes moved that the regular order of business be suspended and that a committee be heard. W. H. Long and others then appeared before the Council and presented a numerously signed petition, entitled "Safety Zone Petition". After a lengthy discussion of the matter, Councilman Graham moved that a committee be appointed from the Chamber of Commerce to confer with Councilman Alford and City Attorney Rector and report back to the Council. Motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Councilman Alford introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That for good and sufficient causes unto the City Council shown, one-half of the fine and costs, amounting to $12.80, assessed against Gus Anderson in the Corporation Court of the City of Austin, Texas, in Cause No. 13924 for passing a street car when stopped, be and the same is hereby remitted. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Councilman Alford introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That for good and sufficient causes unto the City Council shown, one-half of the fine and costs, amounting to $12.80, assessed against T. F. White in Cause No. 14003 in the Corporation Court of the City of Austin, Texas, for passing a street car when stopped, be and the same is hereby remitted, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the sum of $6.40, or one-half of the above fine and costs , be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Contingent Fund of the City of Austin, Texas, and made payable to the said T. F. White. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Councilman Alford introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That for good and sufficient causes unto the City Council shown, one-half of the fine and costs, amounting to $12.80, assessed against E. Mueller in Cause No. 13919 in the Corporation Court of the City of Austin, Texas, for passing a street car when stopped, be and the same is hereby remitted, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the sum of $6.40, or one-half of the above fine and costs, be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Contingent Fund of the City of Austin, Texas, and made payable to the said E. The application of the Phonograph Shop for permission to erect a corrugated iron shed, 36 feet long by 10 feet wide, in the rear of #709 Congress Avenue was read and referred to the City Engineer and Chief of the Fire Department for report back to the Council, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Biebel, Meat and Dairy Inspector; The Council then recessed. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, March 24, 1920. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. A committee from the Chamber of Commerce appeared before the Council and submitted a report on the Austin Street Railway properties. After hearing a discussion of the different reports and data compiled, Councilman Haynes moved that all reports be referred to the City Attorney, J. Bouldin Rector. Motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The following resolution was laid before the Council: RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE WIDTH OF ROADWAY ON EAST NELLIE STREET: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That the width of roadway between curbs of East Nellie Street from South Congress Avenue to its intersection with Riverside Drive be and the same is hereby established at 35 feet.
