333 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: AUSTIN, TEXAS, MARCH 25th, 1920. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the Original following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Alford were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Benj. H. Soto The application of Benjamin H. Soto to operate a service car was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham Haynes and Ward, 5; nays , none. W. J. Crider. At the request of Councilman Haynes, Judge W. J. Crider, Assistant Asst. City Atty City Attorney, appeared before the Council to explain certain criticisms as to the manner of prosecuting defendants in certain cases tried in the Corporation Court. Report of The monthly report of J. H. Woody, Fire Marshal, was read and J. H. Woody, Fire Marshalordered filed. The Council then adjourned. J. Hornsby City Clerk REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, April 1, 1920. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Haynes were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Councilman Haynes moved that the regular order of business be suspended and that a committee be heard in the matter of complaints against the sewage disposal plant. After hearing several talks upon the D. A. Bush subject, the Council agreed to furnish such relief as was possible in & Others the premises. The petition of D. A. Bush and others in the matter of the sewage disposal plant was read and ordered filed. Gulf Refg. Co. Councilman Haynes moved that the application of the Gulf Refining Company be referred to the City Attorney, City Engineer and Chief of the Fire Department for their report back to the Council. Motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Columbian Refining Co. The application of the Columbian Refining Company to erect a canopy over an underground gasoline tank and pump filling station in front of Ritter & Knippa's Store in the angle which is private property, this angle being formed by the intersection of what is known as the Manor and Cameron Roads, was granted , with the understanding that same was to be erected under the supervision of the City Engineer, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. --- Page break --- 334 The application of D. A. Goodstein to erect a gasoline pump and underground tank on West Sixth Street was declined by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Upon motion of Councilman Alford, the application of the Columbian Refining Company to erect a canopy over the filling station at No. 1512 South Congress Avenue was read and action upon same was deferred, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The applications of J. L. Condit, Wiley Jones and Rufus B. Wright to operate service cars were granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution; with affidavit of J. G. Strickland attached: Whereas, J. G. Strickland makes affidavit that he is now the owner of Lots Nos. 4 and 5 in Block No. 3, H. M. Patterson Addition, assessed to A. J. Edrington for the year 1919, and that the assessment of improvements on said lots for said year at a valuation of $200.00 is erroneous, in that said improvements were destroyed by fire previous to the first day of January, 1919. Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby authorized to correct said assessment by striking out the valuation of improvements above referred to and to take credit for the amount of taxes on same. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Assessor and Collector be and is hereby authorized to issue only one duplicate dog tag to any one person on payment of Fifty (50) cents for such duplicate tag and on the affidavit of the party that the original tag was either stolen or lost. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The reports of the City Auditor for the months of January and February were read and ordered filed. The resignation of Houghton Brownlee as Judge of the Corporation Court was accepted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Mayor Yett then nominated A. L. Love to be Judge of the Corporation Court to succeed Houghton Brownlee resigned. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 4; nays, none, Mayor Yett present but not voting. The monthly report of A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher, was read and ordered filed. The claim of Donnelly & White for plumbing done on the premises --- Page break --- 335 of B. F. Marshall, in the amount of Eight Dollars ($8.00), was presented to the Council. Councilmen Graham moved that the claim be not allowed. Motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The Council then adjourned. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, April 8, 1920. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The matter of the application of the Columbian Refining Company to erect a canopy on South Congress Avenue was taken up and upon motion of Councilman Haynes, action upon same was deferred. The petition of the Bergstrom Auto Company for the erection of a gasoline pump on West Fifth Street was referred to the City Attorney and Chief of the Fire Department by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilman Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That whereas, the Board of Equalization, as per statement attached hereto, has requested that the valuation of 125X400 feet of the unplatted part of Hyde Park No. 2, assessed by Mrs. Von Boeckmann for $1,200.00 in error, be reduced to $960.00 on account of a branch running through said property, making it subject to overflow. Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be authorized to make such correction and to take credit for the difference upon his books. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Councilman Alford introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That for good and sufficient causes unto the City Council shown, one-half of the fine and costs, amounting to Twelve Dollars and Eighty Cents ($12.80), assessed against Bert Anderson in Cause No. 14071 in the Corporation Court of the City of Austin, Texas, on the 22nd day of March, 1920, for the offence of fast driving of an automobile, be and the same is hereby remitted, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the sum of Six Dollars and Forty Cents ($6.40), or onehalf of the above fine and costs, be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Contingent Fund of the City of Austin, Texas, and made payable to the said Bert Anderson.
