341 Bacteriologist for nine months at $125.00 per month. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Upon the recommendation of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, Councilman Alford nominated Edward Thiebaut to be hoseman for Hose Company No. 7, to succeed Henry Ford, resigned. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Graham,Haynes and Ward, 4; nays, none. Councilman Alford present but not voting. Upon the recommendation of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, Councilman Alford nominated E. W. Bargeley to be hoseman for Hose Company No. 7, to succeed James Pinget, resigned. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Graham, Haynes and Ward, 4; nays, none. Councilman Alford present but not voting. The Council then recessed.
SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: AUSTIN, TEXAS, MAY 4th, 1920. The Council met with all members present: Councilman Ward introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the President of the Austin Street Railway Company be requested to furnish the City Council with the following information, under oath: 1. Value of property as shown by the books of said Company on January 1st, 1915, and how ascertained; 2. Betterments and extensions made by said Company since said date; 3. Operation and maintenance expenditures since said date; 4. Gross earnings from January 1st, 1915, to January 1st, 1920; 5. What amount has been charged depreciation during said time; 6. Present valuation of said plant, etc., and how ascertained. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, May 6, 1920. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 4; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read, and upon motion of Councilman Haynes, were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Council- men Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Councilman Alford moved that the regular order of business be suspended and that a committee be heard. Mr. R. Mueller and others appeared before the Council and complained of the house at No. 610 Wood Street. Upon motion of Councilman Haynes, the City Attorney, Chief of the Fire Department City Engineer and Chief of Police were instructed to make an inspection of

342 the premises complained of and to report back to the City Council. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. Upon motion of Councilman Haynes, the petition of Billy Ebner to erect certain signs was referred to the City Electrician, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward,5; nays, none. The statement of W. J. Jones, President of the Austin Street Railway Company, in regard to the investment, earnings, etc., of the Company, was received and read and the same was ordered filed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The bids of the Seagrave Company, the American LaFrance Engine Company, Inc., and the Covert Auto Company for fire apparatus were read . Upon motion of Councilman Graham that the bid of the Seagrave Company be accepted as the best bid, same was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward,5; nays, none. The monthly reports of Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector, and A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher, were read and ordered filed. The application of the Patton Auto Company to operate a service car was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nays, none. The Council then recessed.
