Austin Honors Littlefield, Appoints Nurse, Sets School Tax

382 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, Friday, November 12, 1920. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, and Haynes 4; absent, Councilman Ward. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Haynes: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the session of the Council for this day, Friday, November 12th, 1920, be and is hereby adjourned, in respect to the memory of George W. Littlefield, Austin's great citizen and philanthropist, whose body will be laid to rest this afternoon, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That in the passing of Major Littlefield, we feel that our City and State have suffered a distinct loss and that the sympathy of the City Council of the City of Austin is hereby extended to his bereaved relatives. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham and Haynes, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Ward absent. The Council then recessed until ten o'clock A. M., November 15th. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas. November 15th, 1920. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. Mayor Yett nominated Miss Marie Browne to be Municipal Nurse to succeed Miss Dorsey Spiller, resigned, said appointment to become effective December 1st, 1920, at the same salary paid the present Municipal Nurse. [handwritten note: Nomination was approved by the following voteAyes 5- Nays none.] The following communication was read and ordered filed: "November 8, 1920. To the Honorable City Council, Austin, Texas. Gentlemen: In accordance with a provision of sub-division 2, of Section 2, of Article 12, of the Charter of the City of Austin, as amended, the Board of Trustees of the public free schools of said city, at a meeting thereof held on the 8th day of November, 1920, determined, and you are hereby so advised, that the amount of taxes which shall be levied and collected for the year 1920 for the maintenance of said public free schools, is sixty (60) cents on the one hundred dollars worth of taxable property in the City of Austin.
