REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL:
Austin, Texas, Friday, November 15, 1920.
The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham and Haynes, 4; absent, Councilman Ward.
The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Haynes: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN:
That the session of the Council for this day, Friday, November 12th, 1920, be and is hereby adjourned, in respect to the memory of George W. Littlefield, Austin's great citizen and philanthropist, whose body will be laid to rest this afternoon, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That in the passing of Major Littlefield, we feel that our City and State have suffered a distinct loss and that the sympathy of the City Council of the City of Austin is hereby extended to his bereaved relatives.
The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham and Haynes, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Ward absent.
The Council then recessed until ten o'clock A. M., November 15th.
SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL:
Austin, Texas, November 15th, 1920.
The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none.
Mayor Yett nominated Miss Marie Browne to be Municipal Nurse to succeed Miss Dorsey Spiller, resigned, said appointment to become effective December 1st, 1920, at the same salary paid the present Municipal Nurse. Appropriation was adopted by the following vote:Ayes-5, Nayes-none.
The following communication was read and ordered filed:
"November 8, 1920.
To the Honorable City Council, Austin, Texas.
Gentlemen:
In accordance with a provision of sub-division 2, of Section 2, of Article 12, of the Charter of the City of Austin, as amended, the Board of Trustees of the public free schools of said City, at a meeting thereof held on the 8th day of November, 1920, determined, and you are hereby so advised, that the amount of taxes which shall be levied and collected for the year 1920 for the maintenance of said public free schools, is sixty (60) cents on the one hundred dollars worth of taxable property in the City of Austin.

383 A summary of the warrants issued against the several funds of the City of Austin during the month of October, 1920, by Hilton Morris, City Auditor was read and ordered filed. The following monthly reports were read and ordered filed: J. D. Copeland, City Marshal; C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department; J. Woody, Fire Marshal; Jas. H. Maxwell, Sealer of Weights and Measures; The application of B. H. Peacock to operate a service car was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. The Council then adjourned.

The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. x The minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Ward, were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. Sam Dickens and Lawrence Sellers appeared before the Council and presented a claim for damages to a car alleged by them to have been run into by a fire truck. Councilman Ward moved that the claim be referred to the City Attorney for his report back to the Council. Motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE FIXING AND LEVYING MUNICIPAL TAXES FOR THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS, FOR THE YEAR A. D. 1920. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Graham moved that the rule be suspended and that the ordinance be placed on its second reading. Motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. The ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Graham moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance placed on its third reading and final passage. Motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. The monthly reports of Mrs. Edna Schulz, Superintendent of Nurses, and Miss Nellie H. Hall, Secretary of the United Charities Association, were read and ordered filed. The Council then recessed until ten o'clock A. M. Saturday, November 20th, 1920.
