    Approved an additional $1,890 for raises for the Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, and other fire personnel.
  • Auto Damage Claim Paid:

    Settled a $150 claim for Lawrence Sellers' car damages from a July 4th incident.
  • Speeding Fine Reduced:

    Remitted half of a $12.80 speeding ticket for O.J. Kruse.
  • Early "Service Car" Permit:

    Granted Joseph H. Denton permission to operate a commercial "service car."

385 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, December 05, 1920. The Council was called to order by Mayor Pro tem Haynes. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Councilmen Alford, Graham and Ward, 4; absent, Mayor Yett. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Alford, were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Councilmen Alford, Graham and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Councilman Alford introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, on November 24th, 1920, O. J. Kruse was fined in the Corporation Court of the City of Austin, Texas, in Cause No. 14685 , in the amount of Twelve Dollars and Eighty Cents ($12.80) for speeding, Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That for good and sufficient reasons unto the City Council shown, onehalf, or $6.40, of the above fine and costs be and the same is hereby remitted, and the City Clerk of the City of Austin, Texas, is hereby authorized to draw a warrant in the amount of $6.40, payable to the said O. J. Kruse. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Councilmen Alford, Graham and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Mayor Pro tem Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, on February 5, 1920, the City Council of the City of Austin adopted its General Budget for the current fiscal year, and in making the appropriations therein based same, in part, upon the estimated income to be derived from miscellaneous sources in the amount of $53,175.00; and WHEREAS, since the adoption of said budget and the estimation of said income from said sources, it has become evident to the City Council that the total income from said miscellaneous sources will probably amount to the sum of $55,065.00; and WHEREAS, at a previous meeting of the City Council certain increases in the salaries of the employees of the Fire Department were adopted; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin that the sum of $1890.00 be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Fund of the City of Austin, for the purpose of paying said additional salaries to certain employees of the Fire Department, this appropriation being supplemental to and in addition to such salaries already appropriated in the General Budget, and that the said sum hereby appropriated shall be distributed as follows: FIRE DEPARTMENT. Salary of Fire Chief at $50.00 per month ---------------------$200.00 Salary of Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Marshal at $25.00 per month-- 100.00 Motor Driven Apparatus Hook & Ladder Truck Co. 1 Salary of Captain at $25.00 per month -----------------------$100.00 Salary of Lieutenant at $17.50 per month -------------------- 80.00 Salaries of two Ladder-men --------------------------------- 50.00 --- Page break --- The foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Councilmen Alford, Graham and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Councilman Ward intorduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That upon the recommendation of the Board of Equalization, the petition of Manos Bros. for correction of the assessment against their stock and fixtures at 320 Congress Avenue for the year 1919 be granted and that the valuation of same for said year be fixed at $1,250.00 , and the City Assessor and Collector of Taxes is hereby instructed to enter such correction upon his rolls. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Councilmen Alford, Graham and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. The report of J. Bouldin Rector, City Attorney, on the claim of Lawrence Sellers for $195.77 for damages sustained to his automobile on July 4th, 1920, was read and ordered filed. Councilman Graham introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($150.00) be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Contingent Fund for the purpose of settling in full the claim of Lawrence Sellers for damages to his automobile sustained on July 4th, 1920, and the City Clerk is directed to issue a warrant for said amount payable to said claimant and to deliver same upon the delivery to said clerk of a release of all claims growing out of said accident. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Councilmen Alford, Graham and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. The following monthly reports were read and ordered filed: Mrs. R. C. Walker, Pure Food Inspector; A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher; Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector. The Council then recessed. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, December 6, 1920. The Council was called to order by Mayor Yett. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. The following protests of property owners against the action of the Board of Equalization was read and action upon same deferred until the next regular meeting: Carl Belisch; Frank L. Reed; Texas Trust Company; H. C. Steussy; S. J. Von Koenneritz; Austin Sanguerrunde; Felix Cherico; E. A. Alley. The application of Joseph H. Denton to operate a service car was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. The Council then adjourned.
