Copeland, Councilman Alford nominated the following as special policemen: B. B. Neans, J. F. Martin, George W. Patterson, and O. M. Roberts, special watchmen at State University; S. M. Foster, watchman at Dam for Guy Collett; Bob Rockwood, special policeman at picture shows; J. A. Nelson, R. L. Ziller, A. H. Pool, C. W. Barker, Frederick J. Bohn, A. W. Von Struve and H. C. Edgar, special policemen to enforce traffic laws; S. C. Loomis and J. K. Rambo, city park policemen; W. H. Maddox, J. A. Woody, Joe Smith, S. J. Kelly, Joe Amstead, John Hawkins and T. A. Stone, to assist in police work on special occasions; and 3. A. Works, city prisoner guard. Councilman Graham moved that the bid of Maufrais Bros. for excavation and concrete work at the city public scales be accepted as the best bid. Martin Broderick appeared before the Council and asked that certain fines assessed in the Corporation Court against six persons for gaming be remitted, Judge A. L. Love, Recorder of the Corporation Court, also appeared before the Council and made statements regarding said mses. Councilman Ward moved that one-half of the fines assessed in said six cases be remitted and the City Attorney be instructed to draw up the proper resolution covering same. Upon the recommendation of the City Engineer, Chief of the Fire Department and Plumbing Inspector, the application of Joe E.. Webb to install a Bowser gasoline tank and pump at No. 608-610 Colorado Street was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Alford, Graham, and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Upon the recommendation of City Engineer, Chief of the Fire Department and Plumbing Inspector, the application of L. B. Burrette to install a Bowser gasoline tank and pump, at the corner of Thirty-first Street and Speedway was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Alford, Graham and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. The protest of the University Co-operative Society, E.C. Rather, Manager, against the erection of a certain moving picture theatre, was taken up and Jno. A. Gracy appeared before the Council and explained the character of construction of the building proposed between Twentysecond and Twenty-third Streets on Guadalupe Street, and after a dis- cussion of the same, the matter was referred to a committee composed of C. E. Leonard, City Engineer, and Chief of the Fire Department, C. L. Woodward, and P. R. Mitchell, City Electrician, for their report back to the Council, After consultation, said committee reported that if said building were constructed according to the plans of Mr. Gracy same would be safe, and the Council thereupon granted a permit for the erection of said building, provided same were erected under the supervision of the City Engineer, City Electrician and Fire Chief, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Alford, Graham and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent.
