BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector of Taxes be and he is hereby instruced ed to issue a building permit to the said Mrs. Cabanies for the said improvements. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford and Haynes, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Graham and Ward absent. The Council the adjourned. Jerkommel Buty REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: 485 Austin, Texas, March 10th, 1921. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Alford, were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes moved that the regular order of business be suspended and that the waiting committees be heard, Motion prevailed by the following vota Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. F. G. Swenson and others, representing the East Austin Improvement Club, appeared before the Council and asked that certain improvements be made on East Twenty-third Street. A committee composed of J. H. W. Williams, M. H. Benson, T. H. Davis, T. A. Gullette, and Edwin McKellar appeared before the Council and presented the following petition: "Austin, Texas, March 10th, 1921. 1 Hon. W. D. Yett, Mayor, Charles Alford, J. W. Graham, Harry L. Haynes, Jno, S. Ward, Gentlemen: Commissioners: We beg to report to your honorable body that we were appointed a Committee by the south Austin Improvement League by Resolution on March 8th at a regular meeting of the League at South Austin Fire Hall, to ask that you purchase the Bouth half of Block 18, Bwisher's Addition to Austin for a City Park, , We beg to state further that three sites were presented and fully discussed and considered, namely: 1st: The plat of ground at the head of the ravine in Fairview Park immediate ly east of the B. K. Benson home; 2nd: The block of land immediately east of the ravine dump, commonly known as the Charley Newning Homestead tract; 3rd: The south half of Block 18, Swisher's Addition to Austin and immediately north of the light tower. After full discussion of the merits of the several places the League by vote expressed itself in favor of the last named site and we therefore 436 your Honorable Body to purchase said site for a City Park. Davis, The Council agreed to give the above petition due consideration, The bids for printing election supplies were opened and read and Councilman Graham moved that all bids for printing election supplies be rejected and new bide be called for. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. The monthly reports of Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector, Miss Nellie M. Hall, Secretary United Charities Association, J. D. Copeland, City Marshal, Jas, H. Maxwell, Sealer of Weights and Measures, were read and ordered filed. The report of the Austin Gas Light Company for the year ending December 31st, 1920, was read and ordered filed, Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: Whereas, A. L. Givens during the month of February, 1921, paid to the City Assessor and Collector the sum of One Hundred Twelve Dollars and Fifty Cents ($112.50) license fees to operate service cars in the City of Austin for the term ending December 31, 1921, as evidenced by the Assessor and Collector's receipts attached, and said cars having only operated a few days on account of the ordinance prohibiting service cars from standing on Congress Avenue, and the said A. L. Givens having withdrawn from the service car business and surrendered fourteen service car license plates with his application for refund of such part of the license fees paid by him as may be deemed just and proper by the Council, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the sum of Fifty-six Dollars and Twenty-five Cents ($56.25), or onehalf of the amount paid, be refunded to the said A. L. Givens, and the City Clerk is hereby instructed to issue warrant to him for the amount and charge same to the General Contingent Fund of the City. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. Upon the recommendation of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, Councilman Alford nominated M. R. Miller to be ladderman for Hook & Ladder Truck Company No. 1, and Lee Maufrais to be hoseman for Hose Company No. 6. Said nominations were confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Graham, Haynes, and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Alford not voting. Councilman Alford submitted the resignation of W. P. Matlock as ladderman of Hook & Ladder Company No. 1, which was accepted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. The Council then recessed.
