SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, March 12,1921, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. Councilman Ward moved that the Street Commissioner be instructed to remove the limb of a tree from the sidewalk on West 8th Street between Rio Grande Street and West Avenue, in accordance with a former resolution passed by this Council. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none, Upon motion of Councilman Graham, the bid for furnishing election supplies for the City of Austin was awarded to Tobin's Book Store by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none, The Council then adjourned, nebn REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Buy i Austin, Texas, March 17,1921, The Council met with the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon notion of Councilman Ward were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes moved that the regular order of business be suspended and that a committee be heard. Earl E. Simms, C. W. A. MacCormach and G. U. Lansdowne, representing the Kiwanis Club, asked permission to use West Ninth Street for one-half block west of Congress Avenue for the San Sam celebration. Permission was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. G. U. Lansdowne and A. G. Barrett appeared before the Council and asked permission to install a chrono-meter pedestal on the sidewalk in front of their place of business on Congress Avenue, Permission was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: Whereas, the affidavit of J. B. Benson herewith attached shows that he rendered for B. K. Benson $7,000.00 of Notes and Credits at full value for the taxes of 1920, and that the Assessor and Collector failed to make the usual deduction on the rolls of one-third from the face value, Therefore, 437
