444 The monthly reports of Dr. A. A. Biebel, went and Dairy Inspector, J. A. Warren, Cashier and Bookkeeper of the Street and Sewer Department, were read and ordered filed, The Council then adjourned. Gre Vormebe Big Blek REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, April 07, 1921. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. The regular order of business was suspended and Messrs. Houghton Brownlee and A. O. Watson appeared before the Council and asked that certain improvements be made, The matter was referred to the Street Commissioner. A committee composed of A. P. Watson' R. F. Bacon, Woodie Gilbert and Robert Deen appeared before the Council in behalf of the San Sam Committee and asked permission to use Congress Avenue on the morning of April 21st from ten o'clock to twelve o'clock for the purpose of holding the University parade, and also to use East 6th Street from Red River Street to Congrens Avenue and the whole of Congress Avenue on the efternoon of April 22nd from two o'clock to five-thirty o'clock for the purpose of holding the San Sam parede, and that the Chief of Police be instructed to clear Congress Avenue and also two blocks on Mast Sixth Street for the parade during the above stated hours. The above committee also requested that Congress Avenue be cleared of all vehicles from the hours of seven o'clock to nine o'clock P, M., April 20th, and that permission be grunted for the use of such part of the fire equipment we the Chief of the Fire Department may direct. The use of Colorado Street between Fifth und Sixth Streets for a street dance from seven to twelve o'clock, P. M., was clso requested, Councilmen Alford moved that each and all of the above requests be granted, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Hayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. A. P. Watson, President of the Young Men's Business League invited the members of the old as well as the new Council to take part in the San Sam parade. The invitation was accepted with thanks. The application of G. G. Morgan to operate service car ford #435836 was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. كة تهدي- Councilmen Alford introduced the following resolution: BF IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: 1 Thet for good and sufficient ressons known to the City Council the pound fees heretofore assessed agpinst Franz Finet amounting to $7.50, which amount has beer: paid into the City Treasury by the said Franz Fiset, be and the same ar hereby remitted; and the City Clerk be instructed to draw a warrent of the city for $7.50 payable to the order of said Franz Fiset out of the General Contingent Fund, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayen, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Heynes introduced the following resolution; Whereas, Mr. C. F. Steiner makes affidavit that the assessment for the texes of 1920 on improvements to the amount of $500.00 on Lot I, in Block 32 of Swisher's Addition, owned by his wife, Mrs. Nettie Steiner, is erroneous by reason of the fact that the said Lot is entirely unimproved, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That in order to correct the error made by the Board of Equalization, the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby authorized to cancel the assessment for said improvements for the taxes of 1920 from his rolls and to take credit for the amount of taxes on same. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none, Upon the recommendation of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, Councilmen Alford nominated Felix Williams as Hoseman of Hose Company No. 5 to succeed J. D. Tannehill resigned. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Cayor Yett, Councilmen Graham, Haynes and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Councilmen Alford present but not voting. The following monthly reports were read and ordered filed: Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector; Jas, A. Warren, Bookkeeper and Cashier of the Street and Sewer Department; Mrs. R. C. Walker, Fure Food Inspector; irs, Edna L. Schulz, Superintendent Nurses at City Hospital; Dr. C. H. Brownlee, City Health Officer. Councilman Brehem moved that the following certificate of the City Clerk showing the returne of the general election held April 4th, 1921, be received, filed and recorded. In accordance with the provisions of the City Charter, I beg to report that I have carefully canvassed the returns of the General election held in the City of Austin on April 4th, 1921, and I hereby certify the total results thereof as follows: FOR MAYOR A. A contest of the election by J. H. Rogers and Jno, S. Ward was presented and H. L. Haynes, contestee, asked that he be allowed until Friday, April 15, 1921, in which to prepare his answer to contestants, J. H. Rogers and Jno. S. Ward, which request was granted, Councilman Graham then moved that the contest begin Friday, April 15, 1921, at ten o'clock A. M., and continue until finally disposed of.
