1 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COЛІСІЕ: AUSTIN, TEXAS, Apr11_20 1921. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, and Haynes; 3 absent, Councilmen Graham, and Ward. Upon the the recommendation of J. D. Copeland, Chief of Police, Councilman Alford nominated the following named to be Special Policemen during the San Sam celebration: Woodie Gilbert, Robert Deen, A. W. Hart, John B. Moon, Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilman Haynes, 2. "Nayes, none, Councilmen Graham and Ward absents Councilman Alford present but not voting. The Council theyadjourned. Jar Canebey 1 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, April_22, 1921 The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Alford were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Ward introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That at the request of Jno, S. Ward, Councilman and Superintendent of the Water, Light and Power Department of said City, a complete audit of the said Department, from May 1st, 1919, to May 1st, 1921, be ordered and a report made to this Council, no audit of this Department having been made during the past two years. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayeв, попе. The application of Geo. A. Beck to install a steam boiler in the rear of 1005 Congress Avenue in connection with his creamery was referred to the City Engineer and Chief of the Fire Department for their report back to the Council, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution, with. affidavit attached; Whereas, Mr. D. B. Gracy makes affidavit that on December 31,1919, he sold 120X128 feet out of the southeast corner of Outlot 3, Division "D" to the University of Texas and through mistake rendered same for trxes of 1920. Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That as said property was owned by the University on January 1st, 1920, and is not taxable, the Assessor and Collector is hereby authorized 449 450 to cancel the assessment above referred to from his rolls and to tai.e oredit for the amount of the taxes for 1920. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. Whereas, according to the affidavit of Chas. W. Hackett, he rendered on Lot 3 and east forteen (14) feet of Lot 5, Block 1, Outlot 73/74, Division "D", Aldridge Place, incompleted improvements January 1, 1920, at $1,600.00 and that the Board of Equalization ir revising assessments for 1920 after said improvements had been completed, raised the assessment of said improvements to $2500.00, name being in error, as per statement of James Belger, Chairman of the Board of Equalization; and 1920, Whereas, Mr. Hackett paid the taxes on the erroneous assessment for Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That Mr. Hackett is entitled to a refund of $21.15 the difference in the amount of taxes on the true valuation of said improvements on January 1st, 1920, and the amount paid the city on the erroneous valuation of $2500.00, and that the sum of $21.15 be paid out of the General Contingent Fund of the City to refund the amount overpaid by said Hackett, and the City Clerk is hereby instructed to draw warrant for the amount, $21.15, favor of said Hackett. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. The monthly report of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, was read and ordered filed. Upon motion of Councilman Ward, the communication from Carl Hartman, relative to glaring head lights on automobilen, was referred to the City Attorney with instructions to consider an ordinance on the subject, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; neyes, none. Upon the recommendation of J. D. Copeland, Chief of Police, Councilman Alford nominated W. C. Mathis, William L. McGill and Joe R. Gunn to be special policemen during the San Sam celebration. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Layor Yett, Councilmen Graham, Haynes and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Alford present but not voting.
