450 to cancel the assessment above referred to from his rolls and to tai.e oredit for the amount of the taxes for 1920. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. Whereas, according to the affidavit of Chas. W. Hackett, he rendered on Lot 3 and east forteen (14) feet of Lot 5, Block 1, Outlot 73/74, Division "D", Aldridge Place, incompleted improvements January 1, 1920, at $1,600.00 and that the Board of Equalization ir revising assessments for 1920 after said improvements had been completed, raised the assessment of said improvements to $2500.00, name being in error, as per statement of James Belger, Chairman of the Board of Equalization; and 1920, Whereas, Mr. Hackett paid the taxes on the erroneous assessment for Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That Mr. Hackett is entitled to a refund of $21.15 the difference in the amount of taxes on the true valuation of said improvements on January 1st, 1920, and the amount paid the city on the erroneous valuation of $2500.00, and that the sum of $21.15 be paid out of the General Contingent Fund of the City to refund the amount overpaid by said Hackett, and the City Clerk is hereby instructed to draw warrant for the amount, $21.15, favor of said Hackett. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. The monthly report of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, was read and ordered filed. Upon motion of Councilman Ward, the communication from Carl Hartman, relative to glaring head lights on automobilen, was referred to the City Attorney with instructions to consider an ordinance on the subject, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; neyes, none. Upon the recommendation of J. D. Copeland, Chief of Police, Councilman Alford nominated W. C. Mathis, William L. McGill and Joe R. Gunn to be special policemen during the San Sam celebration. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Layor Yett, Councilmen Graham, Haynes and Ward, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Alford present but not voting. The Council then recessed, SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, April_23rd, 1921.. The Council was called to order by the Mayor Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Graham and liaynes, 3; absent, Councilman Alford and Ward. i 1 The application of Will Jackson to operate as n servior oar, Buick Motor #9958, was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Counoilmen Graham and Haynes; 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Alford and Ward absent. The Council then adjourned. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Bitz Austin, Texas, April 28th, 1921, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Alford moved that the regular order of business be suspended and that the waiting committees be heard. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. • Public Account- Paul H. Smith, as representative of Ernst & Ernst ants, appeared before the Council and submitted a bid for the audit of the City's books. A. C. Upleger, of the firm of Upleger & Falk, presented a bid in writing for said audit. H. R. Pedigo appeared before the Council and protested against the closing of an alley north of West Nineteenth Street between Ilueces and Rio Grande Streets. Action upon name was deferred. Councilman Graham presented a pay roll of the Sewer Earnings Fund and Councilman Haynes moved thet said pay roll amounting to $797.50, be approved and paid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Kayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none, C. E. Leonard, City Engineer, reported to the Council that the W. E. Dozier garage on Dam Boulevard extended into the street approximately two feet. Councilman Graham moved that the contract for an audit of the City's books for the past two years, beginning May 1st, 1919, and ending lay lst, 1921, be awarded to Upleger & Falk, at the price of One Thousand Dollars for all departments, in accordance with contract. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayec, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Alford, Graham, Haynes and Ward, 5; nayes, none. The Council then recessed. 451
