W. Graham to the City of Austin is hereby accepted, and said strip of land is hereby declared to be a public street; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That, in recognition of the public services of Honorable J:W. The following resolution was introduced: Whereas on April 3rd, 1919, the City Council of the City of Austin passed a resolution, which is recorded in Minute Book 8 at pages 180-181 of the Minutes of the City Council, designating and naming a public roadway from the International & Great Northern Railway crossing at the western extension of West Sixth Street to the site of the Austin Dam in the City of Austin, As Wooldridge Avenue; and Whereas, for more than thirty years before suon notion of the City Council this roadway had been known and designated on the city maps and recognized by the postal authorities by the name of Dam Boulevard; and Whereas, in appreciation of the public services of former Mayor Wooldridge, a beautiful park and public school and a certain street in the City of Austin had theretofore been named for him; and Whereas, a numerously signed petition of residents living along said roadway has been filed with the City Council requesting that it rescind the action of the former City Council in changing the name of said Dam Boulevard to Wooldridge Avenue, said petition disclaiming any attempt to rob former Mayor Wooldridge of any honors to which he may be entitled, but basing the request of said petition upon the fact that if such action of the former City Council be allowed to stand, same would cause confusion to the postal authorities in distributing mail of said residents, and in 453 description of their various premises which abutted on said roadway in that all of said descriptions refer to Dam Boulevard; and Whereas, for the reasons above stated and with no desire to detract from the value of former Mayor Wooldridge's public services, but with a feeling that appropriate memorials have already been expressed in commemoration thereof, it is deemed expedient that said roadway be changed back to the name by which it has been known for so many years, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the public roadway from the International & Great Northern Railway crossing from the western extension of West Sixth Street to the site of the Austin Dam in the City of Austin be and the same is hereby named and shall hereafter be perpetually known and called Dam Boulevard and the resolution of the City Council passed on April 3, 1919, as aforesaid, be and the same is hereby expressly repealed.
