REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: AUSTIN, TEXAS, MAY 5. 1921. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Fyres, Haynen and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Haynes were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes moved that the regular order of business be suspended and that a committee be heard. motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Henry Faulk, Attorney, then appeared before the Council and presented a petition signed by C. L. Joyce, et al., asking that the City Council enact an ordinance regulating service cars. Councilman Haynes moved that the petition be referred to the City Attorney and the Superintendent of Police and Public Safety. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. A communication from the Young Men's Eusiness League was read and 457 : 1 458 Councilman Eyres moved that the communication be referred to the Guperintendent of Police and Public Safety, the Superintendent of Streets and Public Improvements, the City Engineer and the City Attorney for their report back to the Council. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: Whereas, T. A. Brown rendered for taxes of 1920 an automobile at a valuation of $450.00 and according to his affidavit, he did not purchase said automobile until January 5, 1920, and made the rendition by mistake. Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to strike said rendition from his rolls and take credit for the amount of the taxes, $10.57, the said Brown not being liable for the taxes of 1920 on property he did not own on January 1st, 1920. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL: That the claim of Ben F. Jones, amounting to Forty-seven Dollars ($47.00), being the amount that he erroneously paid on the taxes of Mrs. Hannah E. Spangeler, be granted; and the City Clerk is hereby instructed to issue the warrant of the City for said amount, payable to the said Ben F. Jones, out of the General Contingent Fund; and the City Assessor and Collector of Taxes is hereby instructed to make the correction on his books in accordance with the terms of this resolution, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Copeland introduced the following resolution: Whereas, it appears from the attached affidavit of Evarista Rodriguez that he was the owner of one sorrel mare about fourteen (14) hands high, about six (6) years old, branded C O X on the left thigh, which was impounded by the City of Austin and sold on the 2nd day of May, 1921, to Oscar A. Newberg for the sum of Eight Dollars and Fifty Cents ($8.50); and Whereas, according to the City Ordinance governing same, the said Evarista Rodrigues is entitled to the sum of Four Dollars ($4.00) out of the sale of said live stock; Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the sum of Four Dollars ($4.00) arising from the sale of said live stock, be and the same is hereby refunded to the said Evarista Rodriguez and the Clerk of the Corporation Court of the City of Austin is hereby authorized to make such refund, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Copeland, Councilmen, were received, approved and ordered filed. The Council then recessed until 3:30 P. M. AFTERNOON SESSION Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That for good and sufficient reasons shown to the City Council, the assessment for One Thousand Two Hundred Dollars ($1,200.00) for the year 1920, on Lot 45, Outlot 33, Division "0" of the City of Austin in the name of Frances R. Martin, a minor, be and the same is hereby changed to the sum of Seven Hundred Dollars ($700.00); and the City Assessor and Collector of Taxes is hereby instructed to make said change on his rolls, and the City Clerk is hereby instructed to draw warrant of the City of Austin in the amount of Eleven Dollars and Seventy-five Cents ($11.75), payable to G. H. Griffin, the amount due him as a refund on taxes overpaid by him for said Frances R. Martin, minor. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Mayor Yett nominated C, H.
