466 absent, The Council then adjourned. 7 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, June 09, 1921. i The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Haynes were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The report of C. E. Leonard, City Engineer, in the matter of eliminating odors at the Sewage Disposal Plant was read and ordered filed, The report of Jas. A. Warren, Bookkeeper and Cashier of the Street and Sewer Department, was read and ordered filed, Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: Whereas, Mrs. M. W. Cooney makes statement that in rendering her personal property for taxes of 1920 at the sum of $5,035.00, she made an error of $550.00 in the actual value of said property and prays that her assessment be corrected, to the total sum of $4,485.00, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby authorized to correct said erroneous assessment and take credit for the amount of $550.00 change in the valuation. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes andsearight; 5 - nayes, none. The communication of Carl Hartman was read and referred to Councilman Seuright by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Copeland nominated Joe Amstead, Jr., to be motorcycle policeman to take the position made vacant by the resignation of Peter Brown. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Hayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland not voting. Upon the recommendation of Sam D. Griffin, Chief of Police, Councilman Copeland nominated S. L. Brown to be special policeman on East Avenue, Fred Everett, special policeman at West Austin Fire Hall, Andrew Gonzales special policeman at the Church at 20th and Salina Streets, and ٤٠٠ 467 1 Dan Harper to be used on special occasions as a special policeman. Nominations were confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland not voting. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: Whereas, the University Land Acquisition Committee is now engaged in acquiring the various properties in the City of Austin for the Board of Regents of the University of Texas; and Whereas, as each parcel of property is acquired for said Board of Regents of the University of Texas same will become exempt from further taxation by the City of Austin for that portion of the year 1921 after title passes to said Board of Regents, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Assessor and Collector of Taxes be and he is hereby instructed to place upon the exemption rolls each piece of property so acquir- ed by the Board of Regents of the University of Texas at the time that the present owner of same shall exhibit to him the warrant of the State of Texas evidencing payment for same, and said Assessor and Collector of Taxes shall charge against said property the city taxes for the year 1921 for that portion of the year preceding the exhibition of said evidence of payment of the consideration therefor. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of M. F. Ritter to install a five gallon gasoline pump at 800 East 21st Street was granted with the understanding that same should be erected under the supervision of the City Engineer, Plumbing Inspector, Chief of the Fire Department and City Electrician, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of the University Celebration Committee, asking that the street on the south side of Clark Field between Duval and Speedway streets be closed between the hours of six o'clock P. M. and twelve o'clock P. M., June 11, 1921, was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The monthly reporte of Sam D.
