477 REGULAR METING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, July 14, 1921. 'The Council was called to order by the mayor. koll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Fyres, Haynes and Searight; 5, absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Copeland were adopted by the following vote: Aуев, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Myres, Haynes and Gearight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Eyres moved that Sallie Gilbert, colored, be given free water for the present, on account of being a charity patient. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Mayor Yett introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Mayor of the City of Austin be and he is hereby authorized to make a standing offer of a reward of Four Hundred Dollars ($400.00) for the arrest and conviction of anyone guilty of arson. The above resolution was adopted by the following vole: Ayes, Liayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. pon the recommendation of Sam D. Griffin, Chief of Police, Councilman Copeland nominated E. R. Barnes, Special Policeman at the State Ceme- tery. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Fyres, Haynes and Searight; 4, nayes, none, councilman Copeland not voting. Councilman Eyres introduced the following resolution: Whereas, the state of Texas has heretofore granted to the City of Austin the strip of land known as "River Walk" and lying along the north bank of the Colorado River between Shoal Creek and Waller Creek in said City, for public park purposes; and , Whereas the City of Austin has improved a portion of said grant, and it in the purpose of said city to continue said improvements as rapidly and continuously as practicable, to the end that the purpose of said dedication may be fully carried out; and whereas, the Lone Star Ice Company has heretofore held a portion of said River Walk under lenge from the state, which lemme expired on December 7, 1919; and Wherean, notwithstanding the expiration of naid lease, naid Company still holde ponsension of caid portion of naid River Walk, and to uning name for other purposes than those for which said dediontion was made, thereby endangering the title of said City thereto; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY CONICIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Attorney we instructed to make immediate demand on the Lone Star Ice Company το vacate that portion of said River Walk now in its possession, and hat Le te further instructed to return to t.e Councis at the earliest possible time the answer of said Company to such demand, for the consideration and action of the Council thereon, ine above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Fyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayee, none. i 478 Councilman Bearight Introduced the following resolution: ז מיט'T SOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, XAS: That the sum of Forty Dollars and Ceventy-five Cents ($40.75) be and the name is hereby ordered transferred from the General Street Fund to the Sewer Earnings Fund to reimburse the Farnings Fund tais amount erroneously drawn. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Kayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The following monthly reports were read and ordered filed: sam D. Griffin, chief of Police, C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, Jas. H. Maxwell, Sealer of Weights and Measures, Miss Nellie M. Hall, Secretary of the United Charities Association; and Mrs. Edna L. Schulz, Jupervising Nurse at the city Hospital. Councilman Copeland introduced the following resolution: Whereas, the City Council of the city of Austin in session August 21st, 1877, donated and authorized deed to be made to Joe A. Nagle, then Chief Engineer, and his successore in office, representing the fire department,. Lots 415, 416, 417 and 418 in Oakwood Cemetery, to be used as a burial place for deceased firemen; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Council in session assembled, re-affirm the action of the previous council and authorize C. L. Woodward, Chief Engineer of the Fire Department, and his successors in office to continue the use of the lots specified for the purpose and intent of the original resolution. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searignt, 5; nayes, none. Upon the recommendation of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, Councilman Copeland nominated Jessie Reeves and Henry Ford to be substitute firemen; Irvin II. The application of Robert Cockrell to operate as a service car, Studebaker Engine #131401, was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Byres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayen, none, or Introduced the he following ordinance: An Ordinance regulating the placing, storage, or repair of automobiler an cher things or the streets, alleys, and idewalks of the City of Austin; prohibiting the use of such streets, alleys, and ridewalks for garage shop and storare purposes; and prescribing penalties for the violation of such ordinance, 1 The foregoing ordinence wan read the first time and anld over until the next regulor meeting.
