Williams to operate as a service car Ford #526723, Engine #438622, was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then recessed, SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, July 27, 1921, The Council met with the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none, Copeland Upon motion of Coun of Iman. Councilman Searight was authorized to order one 10-ton tractor from the Holt Company of Dallas, Texas, same to be delivered at Austin for trial and acceptance by the City and if accepted to be purchased by the City upon the terms stated in said order. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then adjourned, REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas. July 28, 1921, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Counoilman Haynes were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Coun- cilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Sesright, 5; nayes, none. The petition of M. E.Horner and others was read and upon motion of Councilman Searight was referred to the City Attorney and Councilman Copeland by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. A communication from Hart & Patterson, Attorneys, relative to the claim for damages for A. McCulloch was read and upon motion of Councilman Eyres was referred to the City Attorney by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. ! The following communication from the employees of the Water and Light Department was read and ordered filed: TO THE HONORABIE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL, City of Austin, Texas. Gentlemen: "Austin, Texas, July 27, 1921, Feeling that the recent published report of Upleger & Falk, Certified Public Accountants, is unfair and unjust and perhaps would, in the minds of the public, cause unjust criticism of the present employees of the Water and Light Department, we, the undersigned, do respectfully petition the Council to make public a statement setting forth that we are neither incompetent nor responsible for any irregularities in the system. Respectfully, (Sgd) Geo, Christian, Chief Bookkeeper; Arthur G. Falk; R. P. Babcock; W. E. Odom; John Byrne; A. L. Bothner; Bryant Davis; Ed W. Martin; W. R. Wyse. The report of M. R. Miller, Mechanic of the Fire Department, was read and ordered filed, Upon the recommendation of Sam D. Griffin, Chief of Police, Councilman Copeland nominated the following to be special policemen, to serve without pay during the Colored Camp Meeting at Deborian Park: John Harbord; Will Petitt; Milton Nobles; Nat Roberts; Jessie Bailey; Tom Bennett; Frank Scroggins; Joe Johnson. All of the above nominations were confirmed by the following vote: Ayes Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland present but not voting. The bide of the American National Bank, the Austin National Bank and the Citizens State Bank for the city treasureship and handling of all city funds were read and upon motion of Councilman Haynes, the bid of the Citizens State Bank was accepted as the best bid by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Hyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The following ordinance was read the third time: "An ordinance regulating the placing, storage, or repair of automobiles and other things on the streets, alleys, and sidewalks of the City of Austin prohibiting the use of such streets alleys, and sidewalks for garage shop and storage purposes; and prescribing penalties for the violation of such ordinance," Councilman Searight moved that the ordinance do now finally pass. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. 483 i : 484 The Council then adjourned. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 4, 1921, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Bearight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Copeland were adopted by the following vote: Луев, Hayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. George Herder, John sutherland and Bob Briscce of Bay City appeared before the Council and asked that the city release sufficient waters impounded by the Colorado River Dam for the benefit of the rice growers of Matagorda County, and after careful consideration of the above request, upon motion of Councilman Eyres, the same was declined by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes nominated D. B. Gracy as City Treasurer of the City of Austin: Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes present but not voting. The reports of A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher, Robert Rockwood, City Fire Marshal, Mrs. R. C. Walker, Pure Food Inspector, and Dr. A. A. Biebel, Meat and Dairy Inspector, were read and ordered filed. The Council then recessed, SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 9. 1921. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll Orll showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes; 4, Councilman Searight absent. Councilman Copeland moved that in the matter of investigation of certain police officials that action by the Council upon same be deferred until after the next term of County Court. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes; 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The Council then recessed.
