REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: 493 1 Austin.Toxes, August 25,1921 : The Council was called to order by the Mayor, Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, and Searight, 4; absent, Councilman Haynes. X Councilman Copeland moved that the regular order of business be suspended and that Mr. O. D. Parker be heard. Motion prevailed by the fol- lowing vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes absent. Mr. O. D. Parker then appeared before the Council and asked permission to construct an underground conduit for the Western Union Telegraph Company in the alley-way between Congress Avenue and Colorado Street from the rear of the Scarbrough Building south to West Third Street and along the north line of West Third Street from Colorado Street east to Neches Street. Councilman Searight moved that permit be granted, said work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes absent. The following bids for paving certain streets of the City were opened and read: pany; The bid of F. E. Rightor, representing the Southwest Bitulithic ComThe bid of W. E. Dozier, representing the Uvalde Rock Asphalt Company. After a comparison of the bids, Councilman Searight moved that the bids be turned over to the City Engineer to consider the same in connection with the Board of Control. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes absent. Councilman Copeland then moved that the Council meet on August 26th, 1921, at three o'clock F. M., to consider the awarding of the bids. X The Mayor laid before the City Council an Ordinance entitled, "An Ordinance authorizing the issue of the Hospital Bonds of the City of Austin, Texas, to the amount of Thirty Thousand Dollars, and providing the payment thereof", The Ordinance was read the first time, and a motion made to suspend the rule and place same on its second reading, which motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes absent. The Council then recessed, X SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 26th, 1921, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; absent, Councilman Haynes, Councilman Searight reported that in company with City Engineer Leonard and State Inspector of Masonry, W. R. Hendrickson, he had carefully considered the bids of the Southwest Bitulithic Company and W. E. Dozier, respectively, for paving, submitted at the regular session of the City Council on August 25th, 1921, and recommended that all the bids of W. E. Dozier for paving the streets and alleys therein specified be accepted. Thereupon Councilman Copeland moved that the bid of W. E. Dozier for paving Colorado Street from the north line of Eleventh Street to where the north line of the alley extending east and west in Blocks 158 and 159 intersects Colorado Street, being approximately 5933-7/100 square yards, with Uvalde Rock Asphalt 14" thick, laid hot on 5" concrete base, including five year maintenance, at the price per square yard, including top, base and maintenance of $2.00; and that within said area on said street approximately 1186 cubic yards excavation and preparation of sub-grade, as per city specifications, at the price of 50% per cubic yard; and approximately 480 lineal feet of concrete curbing within said area on said street at 40 per lineal foot; and that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the contract and bond with said W. E. Dozier and that the Mayor be authorized and instructed to execute said contract. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; neyes, none, Councilman Haynes absent. Councilman Copeland moved that the bid of W. E. Dozier for paving Brazos Street from the north line of Eleventh Street to where the south line of the alley extending east and west in Blocks 160 and 16l intersects Brazos Street, being approximately 4544-94/100 square yards, with Uvalde Rock Asphalt 1" thick, laid hot on 5" concrete base, including 5 year maintenance, at the price per square yard, including top, base and maintenance of $2.00; and that within said area on said street approximately 1136 cubic yards excavation and preparation of sub-grade as per specifications at the price of 50g per cubic yard; and approximately 1600 lineal feet of concrete curbing within
