Paving, Police, and Tax Relief in Austin

532 SPECIAL LEFTING OF THE CITY COMICIL: Auntin, Texas, September 20.1921, The Council was called to order by the Kayor. Roll call snowed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; absent, Councilman Copeland. Councilman Eyres moved that the bill of H. F. Kuehne, amounting to Seven Hundred Eighty-two Dollars and Seventy-nine Cents ($782.79), the same being 3% fees on plans and specifications for the construction of a boiler house at the Water and Light Plant, be allowed and ordered paid. Kotion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Еугев, Науnes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. L. M. LeMeilleur, representing the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, appeared before the Council and made the proposition to insure the pump and turbine at the Water and Light Plant. Coun- сіїтни Науnes moved that Councilman Eyres be authorized to take out such insurance as he deeme advisable upon the pump and turbine at the Water and Light Plant. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. The Council then adjourned. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, September 22, 121, The Council was called to order Ly the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Kayor Yett, Couracilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. Councilman Haynes moved that the regular order of business be suspended and that waiting committees be heard. Motion prevailed by the fol- lowing vote: Ayes, Layor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Fyres, Haynes and Bearight, 5; nayes, none. George W. Mendell, Attorney for W. 2. Seekatz, appeared before t..e Coil and complained of the drainage on tie nort. side of Went 31st Street, and apo sation of Councilman Haynes, the matter was referred to Councilman Searight by the following vote: Ayes, liayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight; 5, nayes, none. Howard McKean, representing the A. T. McKean Estate, appeared! Lefore the Council and asked that the paving of West 13t: Street between Colorado and Lavaca Streets be postponed for one year on account of the present business depressio.. The above request was declined by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. 1 Upen the recommendation of Sam D. Griffin, Chief of Police, Councilman Copeland nominated John Simms to be Special Policeman to assist in enforcing the traffic laws. The above nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland present but not voting. Upon the recommendation of Sam D. Griffin, Chief of Police, Councilman Copeland nominated Walter Ayres to be Special Policeman at Trinity Chapel Mission Church. The above nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight 4; payed, none, Councilman Copeland present but not voting. • Councilman Searight moved that the bid of A. E. Deats for painting the interior of the City Hospital be accepted as the best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: Whereas, C. H. Cocke rendered notes and credits for taxes for the year 1920 and after said rendition used said notes in the purchase of certain property which was rendered for taxes of 1920, and said taxes assessed by him; and Whereas, said Cooke having appealed to the City Council prior to June 1st, the date upon which penalty accrued, for relief from payment of taxes of 1920 on said notes and credite, which matter was referred to the City Attorney who having ruled that the assessment of such notes and credits could not be cancelled, Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL: That said C. H. Cocke be permitted to pay the taxes and interest with out penalty, his appeal having been made within the time provided by law, and that the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby authorized to accept payment accordingly. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The monthly reports of Walter L. Eyres, Superintendent Parks and Public Property, for the months of June and July were read and ordered filed, AFTERNOON SESSION The Minutes of the meetings of September 8 and 15 were read and adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Fyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none.
