592 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, January 12, 1922. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Fyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Haynes were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Owing to illness, Mayor Yett was excused from the Council meeting at 10:30 A. M., Mayor Pro tem Haynes then presided. Mayor Pro tem Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, Rosa Black has petitioned the City Council of Austin, Texas, asking that the accumulated interest due upon her taxes, covering a number of years, against Lot No. 9, in Block No. 4, Outlot No. 4, Division "0" of the City of Austin, be remitted; and WHEREAS, it is the sense of the City Council that one-half of the amount of accumulated interest due on said taxes be remitted by the Tax Assessor and Collector upon the payment of said taxes and penalty. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That said Assessor and Collector is authorized to remit one-half of the accumulated interest against said property, upon the payment of said taxes and penalty and the remainder of said interest by the said Rosa Black. Upon motion of Councilman Eyres, the above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. The communication of J. H. W. Williams, Secretary of the Charter Commission, asking that the City Engineer make certain surveys with reference to boundaries of the City of Austin was referred to Councilman Searight, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Upon the recommendation of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, Councilman Copeland nominated Henry Ford as fireman at Hose Company No. 1 to succeed Ed Borders, resigned. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Councilmen Eyres and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Counoilman Copeland present but not voting, Mayor Yett absent. Upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee, composed of A. J. Anderson, City Electrician, C. E. Leonard, City Engineer, and Robert Rockwood, Fire Marshal, the petition of Brown & Odiorne to erect an iron olad garage in the rear of 308 Congress Avenue, was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro tem Haynes,новании Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Upon the recommendation of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, the petition of Mrs. J. R. Cabaniss to erect a bath room at 104 East 2nd Street, same to have fire-proof roof and cement floors, was granted, with the understanding that it should be erected under the supervision of the City Fire Marshal, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. 1 ayor Pro tem Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, in Cause No. 20933 in the District Court of Travis County, in suit of the City of Austin vs. Unknown Owners, 1/8 interest in 33-1/3 acres of the Daniel J. Gilbert Survey was sold to the City of Austin for $20.88, being amount of taxes, interest, penalties and costs for 1899 and 1901 on said property; and WHEREAS, D. B. Gracy representing the said property known as the "Bunsen" interest, desires to pay said taxes, interests, costs and penalties amounting to the sum of $20.88; and WHEREAS, the said property is not now included in the limits of the city, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby authorized to receive said amount of $20.88 in full for taxes, interest, penalties and costs due on said property, taking credit for any interest that may have accrued since said sale, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. The following monthly reports were read and ordered filed: Jas. H. Maxwell, Sealer of Weights and Measures; C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, Nelliem.
