! ! 622 The bide of B. M. Spears and othere for erecting n runway connecting the City Hospital Buildings were read and Councilman Haynes moved that the hid of 11. M. Spoars for $1433.00 be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Hotion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Hyres, Haynes and Bearight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes moved that the bid of D. M. Spenre for building an addition, installing plumbing, wiring and gas fixtures at the Nurses Home he accepted as the best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Tyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then adjourned. Air ! REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, March 9, 1922, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. Councilman Haynes moved that the reading of the Minutes of the last meeting be suspended. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: Whereas, Mrs. Emma W. Norris, in making her rendition for 1921, as shown by the records of the Assessor and Collector, rendered one horse and one cow; and Whereas, R. W. Norris included in his rendition one horse and cow, of the total value of one hundred dollars claimed by Mrs. Emma W. Norris to be the same horse and cow rendered by her, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN; That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to cancel the rendition of paid horse and cow by R. W. Norris and take credit for the tax thereon. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: Whereas, the records of the Assessor and Collector show a rendition of an automobile by C. Dorris for the year 1921 valued at $250.00; and Whereas, it is claimed that C. Dorris moved to Dallas, Texas, in October 1920, taking his automobile with him, and his agent, L. A. Robbins, making the rendition for him signed a copy of the 1920 rendition, which included the car; and Whereas, Mr. Doole has purchased the real estate assessed by Mr. Dorris and has applied to pay the taxes thereon, Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby authorized to accept !..: 1 1 taxes on the real estate assessed by Hr. Dorris and take credit for the taxes on said automobile. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: Whereas, as per the terms of a contract heretofore entered into between the City of Austin, party of the first part, and Lightfoot, Brady and Robertson and J. W. Maxwell, parties of the second part, said parties of the second part have filed and prosecuted to judgment a suit against th National Equitable Society of Belton, Texas, for taxes of 1917 and 1918 and have collected thereon and tendered to the City the total sum of said taxes, to-wit, $438.17; and Whereas, said second parties are entitled to a fee of 20% for such collection, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the sum of Eighty-seven Dollars and Sixty-three Cents ($87.63) be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Fund and the City Clerk is instructed to draw a warrant for said amount in favor of J. W. Maxwell in full payment of such fee to said second parties. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The monthly reports of A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher, and Miss Nellie M. Hall, Secretary of the United Charities Association, were read and ordered filed. Councilman Copeland nominated the following firemen: J. C. Taylor, as Hoseman for Hose Company #3 to succeed A. D. Dye, resigned; Jim Reese as Hoseman for Hose Company #1 to succeed Grover Caldwell transferred to Chemical Company #1; Nolan I. Makay as Hosaman for Engine Company #1 to succeed Robert Rockwood transferred to Chemical Company #1. Said nominations were confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Hyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland present but not voting. The application of The Popular to erect an electric sign in front of #723 Congress Avenue, upon the recommendation of Robert Rockwood, City Fire Marshal, was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres nominated Walter E. Seaholm as City Electrician, to succeed A. J. Anderson, deceased. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres present but not voting.
