624 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, March 16, 1922. The Council was called to order by Mayor Pro tem Haynes, Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; absent, Mayor Yett. Councilman Eyres moved that the reading of the Minutes of the last meetings be suspended. Notion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Miss Lillie Robertson and others appeared before the Council and asked that the Council name some one of the parks in honor of Ex-President of the Republic of Texas, Mireau B. Lamar. The Council took the matter under advisement. The petition of J. J. Mercer and Jim Gann, asking permission to install & gasoline filling station was read and upon motion of Councilman Copeland, was referred to the City Engineer, City Electrician and City Fire Marshal for their report back to the Council by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Hayas, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, and Searight; 4, absent, Mayor Yett, Nayes, none. • Mayor Pro Tem Haynes introduced the following resolution: Whereas, Roy J. West affirms that the automobile assessed to him for a value of $200.00 for city taxes of 1921 was not owned by him on January 1, 1921, same having been purchased after that date, as per statement in letter attached, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed and quthorized to strike said assessment from the rolls of 1921 and to take Credit therefor. Upon motion of Councilman Eyres, the above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Councilman Copeland introduced the following resolution: Whereas, the City Council has heretofore accepted the bid of B. M. Spears for the construction of a two story sun-parlor and runway between the two buildings of the City Hospital, according to plane, at the cont of $1,433.00, which was the lowest and best bid therefor; and Whereas, the City Council has also heretofore accepted the bid of said B. M. Spears, which was the lowest and best bid therefor, for certain labor and materials in the construction of the items of work hereinafter specified and at the cost hereinafter specified, said work to be done on the Nurses Home, an addition to the City Hospital, to-wit: Material for Bathroom and Closets ..... -$214.73 Labor -- ---110.00 Plumbing and Wiring Bathroom- 194.00 Fitting Four Rooms with Gas -- 14.25 Changing Light Eeter and Service Wires to Garage, Changing Two Drop Lights on Sleeping Porch to Two Light Chandeliers; putting One Drop Light in Closet; Soldering Joints in Old Building and Tapping them ----- 32.55 Fitting Passage Way at City Hospital with Two Ceiling Lights and Two Flush Switches------------- 11.90 Painting and Papering Bathroom and Closets32.50 Total $609.93; 1 and Whereas, all of said work specified in said bids mentioned has been done by said B. M, Spears, according to the plans and specifications and to the satisfaction of the City Council, Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the sum of Two Thousand Forty-two Dollars and Ninety-three Cents ($2,042.93) be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Hospital Bonde Fund for the purpose of paying for the work above mentioned; and the City Clerk is hereby instructed to issue a warrant against said fund in favor of said B. M. Spears for said amount and in full payment for said work. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Sesright, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Upon the recommendation of R. E. Nitschke, Acting Chief of Police, Council man Copeland nominated Charley Rowley as Special Policeman. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Report of Sam D. Griffin read and ordered filed, The Council then recessed, Chief of Police, for the month of February was SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, March 18, 1922. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland and Eyres; 3, absent, Councilmen Haynes and Searight. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That, after carefully considering sundry protests made to the Council against the valuations placed by the Board of Equalisation on property of the contestees for the taxes of 1921, the following changes from valuations of the Board have been made, to-wit: CITY BLOCK 88 Lot No. I, west 46 feet, reduced from $1,800.00 to $14535.00; East 23 feet of Lot No. I and all of Lot No. 2, reduced from $3,065.00 to $2,455.00; West 46 feet of Lot No. 3, reduced from $1,535.00 to $1,225.00; East 23 feet of Lot No. 3 and all of Lot No. 4, reduced from $3,665.00 to $2,910.00 625 |
