  • Street Paving Project Approved

    Specifications were adopted for paving 16th Street between Rio Grande Street and West Avenue. Property owners will bear the cost, and bids for the construction project are now being sought.
  • Property Tax Valuation Corrected

    A resolution was passed to reduce a property's 1921 tax valuation for Mrs. Ester P. Doom from $5,700 to $4,000, bringing it in line with two-thirds of its actual value.
  • Special Police Appointments

    Two individuals were appointed as special policemen: one to assist with traffic law enforcement without pay, and another to serve as an officer for the Penticostal Church of God.

26 REGULAR LEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, June 15, 1922, The Council met with Mayor Pro Tem Haynes presiding. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, and Sea- right, 4; absent, Mayor Yett. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Copeland were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Tyres, and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. The petition of R. M. Thomson, W. R. Smith and George B. Clark, being the owners of property fronting on Sixteenth Street between West Avenue and Rio Grande Streets was read and same was referred to Councilman Searight, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Councilman Searight introduced the following resolution: RESOLUTION INSTRUCTING THE CITY ENGINEER TO PREPARE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE PAVING OF 16TH STREET FROM THE WEST LINE OF RIO GRANDE STREET TO THE EAST LINE OF WEST AVENUE. Whereas, the abutting property owners on 16th Street between the west line of Rio Grande Street and the east line of West Avenue have petitioned the City Council for the paving of 16th Street on said above described limits, said pavement to be paid for by the abutting property owners, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Engineer be and he is hereby instructed to prepare and submit to the City Council specifications for the paving of 16th Street as hereinabove described, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 43; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Councilman Searight introduced the following resolution: RESOLUTION ADOPTING SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE PAVING OF 16TH STREET FROM THE WEST LINE OF RIO GRANDE STREET TO THE EAST LINE OF WEST AVENUE: Whereas, the City Council did by resolution instruct the City Engineer to prepare and submit to the City Council specifications for the paving of 16th Street from the west line of Rio Grande Street to the east line of West Avenue; and Whereas, said specifications were, in accordance with resolution, submitted to the City Council by the City Engineer and said specifications were carefully examined by the City Council, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the specifications for the paving of 16th Street from the west line of Rio Grande Street to the east line of West Avenue as submitted by the City Engineer, be and the same are hereby approved and adopted; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Superintendent of Streets and Public Improvements be instructed to advertise for bids to be received by the City Council at 11 o'clock A. M., June 26th, 1922. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. 27 ۱ הי : The communication of T. H. McGregor, Attorney for the Southern Surety Company of Des Moines, Iowa, was read and Councilman Copeland moved that same be referred to Councilman Haynes Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. Councilman Copeland nominated M. A. Hudler as special policeman to assist in the enforcement of the traffic laws to serve without pay. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Eyres and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland present but not voting, Mayor Yett absent. Councilman Copeland nominated John Patterson as special policeman to act as officer at the Penticostal Church of God. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Eyres and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland present but not voting, mayor Yett absent. The resignation of Dr. A. A., Biebel part time Dairy and Slaughter House , Inspector, was read and Councilman Copeland moved that the resignation be accepted. Resignation was accepted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Eyres and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland present but not voting, Mayor Yett absent. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Board of Equalization raised the valuation of Lots 3 and 4, , Subdivision of Outlot 37, Division "D", assessed to Mrs. Ester P. Doom for taxes of 1921 from $2,500.00 to $5,700.00, as per statement herewith attached has since found that the full value of said property per sales made in May, 1921, to Fred Kingdon and Harry V. Hoffer is $6,000.00 and request that the valuation of $5,700.00 be changed to $4,000.00, or two-thirds of the full value of said property, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to make the correction or change on his roll for 1921 and to take credit for $1,700.00, amount of reduction in said assessment. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight; 4 nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent. The petition of Dr. Z. T. Scott to erect a temporary auto shed in the rear of #700. Brazos Street was read and upon motion of Councilman Eyres, the same was referred to the Safety Committee for their report back to the Council, by the following vote: Ayos, Mayor Fro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland, Fyres, and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett absent, The reports for Hay of W. A. Alff, City Sexton and C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, were read and ordered filed. A communication from Wm. B. Travis chapter of Austin Daughters of the Kepublic of Texas expressing their thanks to the City Council for naming a certain park in the City Lamar Park, was read and ordered filed. , The Council then recessed. :
