28 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, May 19, 1922. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; absent, Counoilman Eyres. Frank J. Gallagher, Vice President of the firm of Stoner, Gallagher & Groos, Inc., appeared before the Council in the matter of installing a tax system for this city. A contract of the City of Austin with said firm was read and signed in duplicate, one copy being given to Frank J. Gallagher and the other retained by the city. The Council then adjourned. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: City Blerk Austin, Texas, June 22, 1922. The Council was called to order by the Mayor Pro Tem. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland and Searight, 3; absent, Mayor Yett and Councilman Eyres. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Bearight, were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland and Searight, 3; nayes, none, absent, Mayor Yett and Councilman Eyres. Tem Mayor prot Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, K. C. Miller makes affidavit that he rendered for taxes 1-1/10 acres and 6-2/10 acres of Outlot 28, Division "C" in the name of D. N. Nowlin for 1921, when it should have been rendered in the name of D. Nowlin Robinson and that D. Nowlin Robinson rendered the same property for said year, making a double rendition, Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to cancel the assessment erroneously made by K. C. Miller in the name of D. N. Nowlin and take credit for taxes on such erroneous assessment. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Mayor Yett and Councilman Eyres absent. Mayor Pro Tem Haynes introduced the following resolution: , WHEREAS, T. H. McGregor Attorney for the Southern Surety Company of Des Moines, Iowa, and W. B. Cross, Chief Clerk of the State Treasury, make statements herewith attached that bonds of the Greenville Gas Company, amounting to $34,725.00 on deposit in the State Treasury for account of said Security Company, and which were assessed for Austin city taxes of 1921, amounting to $763.96, ! i were withdrawn from the treasury on December 22, 1920, and United States Bonds substituted therefor, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to cancel the assessment of the Southern Surety Company for taxes of 1921, above referred to, and to take credit for $763.96, amount of the taxes so erroneously assessed, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Mayor Yett and Councilman Eyres absent. Mayor Pro Tem Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Board of Equalization, per statement herewith, placed the full value of $2,460.00 on Lot 10, Block 31, Division "D", assessed to J. D. Peterson for taxes of 1921, and on hearing before the Board by J. F. Clark representing said Peterson, it was agreed to reduce the full valuation of said property to $1,800,00, which correction was overlooked and not made on the rolls; and WHEREAS, the taxes on the erroneous valuation of $2,460.00 have been paid by Mr. Peterson and he is entitled to a refund of $27.72 excess of taxes on $2,460.00 over the corrected valuation of $1,260.00, as per affidavit of the Board, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Clerk be instructed to issue a warrant to Mr. Peterson against the General Contingent Fund for the sum of $27.72, and that the Assessor and Collector be authorized to correct his roll accordingly and to take credit for the reduction in this assessment. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Mayor Yett and Counoi1man Eyres absent. Upon the recommendation of C. E. Leonard, City Engineer, Walter E. Seaholm, City Electrician, and Robert Rockwood, Fire Marshal, the application of Dr.Z.Τ. Scott to erect an automobile shed at 700 Brazos Street was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Pro Tem Haynes, Councilmen Copeland and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Mayor Yett and Councilman Eyres absent. The report of Miss Nellie M. Hall, Secretary United Charities Association, was read and ordered filed, The Council then recessed. 29 30 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL:: Austin, Texas, June 26, 1922, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. Bids for furnishing supplies to the city for the six months beginning July 1, 1922, and ending December 31, 1922, were opened and read, The bid of V. O. Weed to furnish ambulance service and coffins for white paupers was accepted as the lowest and best bid. The bid of N. W. Rhambo to furnish ambulance service and coffine for colored paupers was accepted as the lowest and best bid. The bid of the Austin American for the newspaper printing for the City of Austin at the rate of 444 per agate line, was accepted as the lowest and best bid. Councilman Searight moved that all bids for hardware, cement and stock feed be rejected. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes moved that all bids for dairy products, drugs, groceries, meat, etc., be referred to Councilman Copeland for his report back to the Council. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes moved that all bids for paving West 16th Street between Rio Grande Street and West Avenue be referred to Councilman Searight.
