REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 10, 1922 The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Fyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted by following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. A. P. Loney appeared before the Council and requested the use of city streets on Labor Day for a parade. Councilman Haynes moved that the use of the streets be granted and that the City Council accept the invitation to lead the parade. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Fyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Dr. Harper appeared before the Council requesting sewer extensions along 35th Street between Speedway and Duval Streets. The matter was taken under advisement. It was agreed the 14th instant, Dr. Golaz and V. M. Ehlers, State Sanitary Engineer, appeared before the Council and discussed the merits of a municipal abattoir. to call in residents near the proposed site on Monday at ten o'clock A. M. for a hearing. AFTERNOON SESSION The monthly reports of Jas. H. Maxwell, Sealer of Weights and Measures, C. L. Woodward, Fire Chief, Miss Lola Fay Archibald, Public Health Nurse, were read and ordered filed. Permission was granted to F. L. Patty to move an electric sign from #722 to #702 Congress Avenue, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee, the application of A. J. Priem to install a gasoline tank at #2104 East Avenue was granted, subject to revocation by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of the I&GN Railroad Company for a permit to lay a spur track in the alley between 2nd and 3rd Streets, from Colorado to Guadalupe Streets, was referred to Councilman Searight and City Attorney Rector and City Engineer Leonard by the following vote: Ayoo, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of Scott & Gregg to erect a gasoline tank at #114 East 7th Street upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee, was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee, the application of Louis Silberstein to erect an iron clad warehouse at #408 East 6th Street was refused by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Searight introduced the following resolution: RESOLUTION CHANGING THE NAME OF BETTIE STREET TO TOM GREEN STREET: Whereas, there exists a confusion as to the name of the street running northerly and southerly and abutting blocks 9 and 10 of the Grooms Addition to the City of Austin and out of the Thomas Gray Survey and said street 1 43 44 extending from 34th Street northward to 35th Street; and Whereas, while the official records designate said street as Bettie Street, still it is shown that less confusion would exist if said street between the limits as above described were changed to Tom Green Street, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That said street as above described be and the same is hereby designated as Tom Green Street. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none... Councilman Searight introduced the following resolution: RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING 35TH STREET BETWEEN UNIVERSITY AVENUE (SPEEDWAY) AND DUVAL STREET. Whereas, it has been shown that there exists a confusion as to the name of the street extending from University Avenue to Duval Street and being the first street north of Post Oak, or 34th Street, and abutting the north sides of Blocks 8, 10 and 11 of the Grooms Addition to the City of Austin out of the Thomas Gray Survey; and Whereas, it is also shown to the satisfaction of the City Council that said street in question should be named 35th Street, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That said street be and the same is hereby designated as 35th Street. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of Daniel G. Fallon to erect an electric sign at #722 Congress Avenue was referred to the Safety Committee, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then recessed. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 11, 1922, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. The Mayor introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE GRANTING TO THE HOUSTON & TEXAS CENTRAL RAILROAD COMPANY THE RIGHT ΤΟ CONSTRUCT, MAINTAIN AND OPERATE A RAILROAD INDUSTRY SPUR TRACK ON FIFTH STREET AND INTO THE PROPERTY OF THE GULF REFINING COMPANY, ADJACENT TO AND LYING WEST OF CHICON STREET, AND TO RE-LOCATE THE EXISTING SPUR TRACK OF SAID COMPANY NOW LYING ADJACENT THERETO: ALL SUBJECT TO CERTAIN CONDITIONS.
