The application of the First Baptist Church for permission to close the alley between 10th and 11th Streets running east and west for one-half block immediately north of the First Baptist Church, was read and upon motion of Councilman Haупев was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Hyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. The application of F. B. Smith and others for a street light at the corner of 34th and San Gabriel Streets was read and upon motion of Councilman Searight was referred to Councilman Eyres by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. The application of J. S. Wright to erect a sign at 203 West 7th Street between the sidewalk and curb was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be rejected and the said J. S. Wright ordered to remove same. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. Councilman Haynes noved that the Police Department be instructed to have removed a sign on South side of West 14th Street between Colorado and Lava ca Streets. The monthly reports of W. L. Eyres, Superintendent Parks and Public Property, Sam D. Griffin, City Marshal, W. A. Alff, City Sexton, M. R. Miller, Mechanic for Fire Department, Miss Nellie M. Hall, Secretary United Charities, and C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, were read and ordered filed. The application of Dr. J. S. Wright to erect a sign over the sidewalk at #203 West Seventh Street was read and upon motion of Councilman Searight, was referred to the Safety Committee by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The petition of Mrs. C. L. The petition of John L. Martin and others, asking that the City Council require all plumbers and electricians of the City of Austin to take out license was read and upon motion of Councilman Searight was referred to the City Attorney by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Tax Collector be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to issued receipt to W. P. Allen for amount covering his taxes for year 1921 upon payment of same, together with interest due thereon from April 1st without penalty, same having been remitted in view of final adjustment of the valuation of the property involved under the Unit System, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Copeland introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS I AND 2 OF AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE STANDING OF VEHICLES ENGAGED IN THE BUSINESS OF CARRYING PASSENGERS OR FREIGHT FOR HIRE UPON THE STREETS OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, WITH THE CERTAIN EXCEPTION NAMED IN THIS ORDINANCE, REGULATING THE CONDUCT OF PERSONS IN CHARGE OF SUCH VEHICLES, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY", PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL ON JULY 27TH, 1922, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Copeland moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on its second reading. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Copeland moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on its third reading and final passage. The ordinance was read the third time and Councilman Copeland moved that the same do now finally pass. Councilman Copeland introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 4 AND 7 OF AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC ON THE STREETS OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, CUMULATIVE OF CERTAIN ORDINANCES HERETOFORE ORDAINED, REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES," PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN ON MAY 25TH, 1922, AND ADDING SECTIONS 9A, 9B AND 90 TO SAID ORDINANCE, AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Eyres moved that Section 4 of said ordinance be amended so as to hereafter read as follows: Section 4.. No vehicle shall stand within any street intersection at any time, and no vehicle shall stand at any time within the area formed by lines projected at right angles into any street from points at the curb five feet on each side of any fire hydrant. The above motion was lost by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Eyres and Haynes, Nayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, and Searight. Councilman Copeland then moved that the rule be further suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Haynes: were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The petition of Jesse J. Smith, et al, asking that Guadalupe Street between 27th and 29th Streets be widened was read and Councilman Haynes moved that said petition be referred to the Street Commissioner and City Attorney for their report back to the Council. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. A. P. Watson and others, representing a committee from the San Sam, appeared before the Council and asked that certain streets be cleared for the purpose of holding the San Sam parades on Monday and Tuesday afternoons, October 30th and 31st. Councilman Haynes moved that the Police Department be instructed to have said streets cleared as requested, and that the invitation to join in the parade be accepted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Searight was then excused from the Council meeting. Councilman Eyres introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, Southern Surety Company heretofore issued its policy of insurance No. K-43402, to the City of Austin for the term of one year, beginning January 6, 1916, and ending January 6, 1917, to the extent of $5,000.00, for the purpose of indemnifying said City against loss by reason of its legal liability for damages on account of bodily injuries inflicted on any person not employed by it in the operation of its electric light and power plant; and WHEREAS, during said term, one S. W. Johnson, not an employee of the City, was injured in the operation of the City's said plant and recovered against the i !
