Councilman Copeland introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the sum of Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) be and the same is hereby transferred from the fund appropriated for "Miscellaneous Expenses" under the head of Special Appropriations for the Fire Department in the budget for the year 1922 to the "City Hospital", under said budget, and said budget is amended so as to contain the following item under said last named head: Salary of Accountant ---- ---------------$200.00 and said sum is hereby appropriated for said purpose, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The following monthly reports were read and ordered filed: Sam D. Griffin, Chief of Police, Robert Rockwood, Fire Marshal, Jas. H. Maxwell, Sealer of Weights and Measures, M. R. Miller, Mechanic for the Fire Department. The Council then adjourned. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, November 16, 1922, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Copeland moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Copeland nominated J. B. Hall as Special Policeman to assist the Police Department in broadcasting descriptions of stolen articles by radio. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Tyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland present but not voting. The petition of Louis M. Turner and others, students of the University of Texas, asking that Detective Lathe Young be discharged from the police force of the City of Austin, was read and Councilman Searight moved that the request of the petitioners be declined for the reason that the matter in question had been thoroughly investigated and adjusted by Councilman Copeland. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Fyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The monthly reports of A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher, and Jas. H. Maxwell, Sealer of Weights and Measures, were read and ordered filed. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the City of Austin has heretofore employed Stoner, Gallagher & Groos, Inc. to install a uniform system for the assessment of real property in the City, and assigned Mr. Hart McCormack, representative of said company, to assist the City Assessor and Collector of Taxes, and the Board of Equalization in assessing and equalizing said property; and 69 70 WHEREAS, Mr. McCormack has rendered such services in a highly efficient and capable manner, and by his expert knowledge of the subject and his courtesy toward the taxpayers in the difficult task of equalizing property values and satisfying said taxpayers of the justness of the action of said officials in making and equalizing said assessments, he has been of incalculable value to the City of Austin; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the thanks and appreciation of the City Council be extended to Stoner, Gallagher & Groos, Inc. for the selection of Mr. Hart McCormack to assist the City in the capacity above stated, and especially to Mr. Hart MoCormack for the very courteous and capable way in which he has performed said services. The Council then adjourned. Clerk REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, November 23, 1922, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Copeland were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and searight, 5; nayes, none. The petition of George H. Harrington, et al. asking that North Guadalupe Street be opened and improved from 29th to Wheeler Streets was read and upon motion of Councilman Eyres the petition was referred to Councilman Searight by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Tyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The petition of A. S. Martin, et al., asking that the Austin Gas Light Company be required to extend gas mains in Hyde Park was read and referred to A. T. Knies, Manager of the Austin Gas Light Company, for consideration. The communication of H. Shaw, R. R. Harston and R. H. Gough, students of A&M College, asking permission to sell colors, arm bands, etc., on the streets of the City of Austin on November 30th, was read and Councilman Copeland moved that the Mayor be instructed to reply to same, granting such request. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Upon the recommendation of Sam D. Griffin, Chief of Folice, Councilman Copeland nominated A. L. Moore as special policeman, said Moore being in the employ of the United States Government and handling U. S. mail at the depots. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Fyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland present but not voting. The application of L. Novy, Manager of the Hancock Opera House, for permission to stretch a canvas sign across West Sixth Street was read and Council- man Haynes moved that the application be refused.
