72 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, December 07, 1922, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Copeland were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The application of C. A. Stoner to erect a sign at 102 East 5th Street was read and referred to the Safety Committee by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The application of Frank Riley to erect a garage in the rear of 101 Congress Avenue was read and referred to the Safety Committee by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of A. F. Campbell to erect a wash rack at 99 Congress Avenue was read and referred to the Safety Committee by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Auto Owners Co-operative Association rendered for the taxes of 1921 certain personal property; and WHEREAS, said association closed out its business to H. F. Cook before said taxes became due and the said purchaser having disposed of the property assessed for said year and the same cannot be reached for execution; and WHEREAS, the said H. F. Cook has agreed to pay said taxes and accrued interestless penalties, Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby authorized to receive said taxes and interest, less penalties, and to take credit for amount of said penalty. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of R. L. Routt to erect a gasoline filling station at the corner of 29th and Guadalupe Streets was read and Councilman Searight moved that the application be granted, upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyгев, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, попе, Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the City of Austin has assessed for taxes against C. J. Armstrong one $800.00 note for the year 1919 and three $800.00 notes for the year 1920; and WHEREAS, said C. J. Armstrong has presented his affidavit showing that said notes, respectively, were not owned and held by him for either of the years for which they were assessed for taxes, and, therefore, said assessments have been erroneously made, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Tax Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby authorized to strike said assessments against said C. J. Armstrong from his rolls for the respective years above stated. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. filed; The following reports of the Board of Equalization were read and ordered To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Austin, Tехав. We, the Board of Equalization appointed by your Honorable Body for the year 1922, beg leave to report that we have finished our duties of equalizing values of all real estate, improvements and personal property situated in the City of Austin as nearly as possible, considering the limited time given. " Councilman Haynes moved that the reports be accepted and the thanks of the City Council extended the members of the Board of Equalization for their earnest efforts to equalize property values. The monthly report of Milton Morris, Auditor, showing a summary of warrants issued out of the several funds of the City of Austin, was read and ordered filed. The reports for November of Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector, Mrs. R. C. Walker, Pure Food Inspector, A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher, and Jas. H. Maxwell, Sealer of Weights and Measures, were read and ordered filed. 73 74 AFTERNOON SESSION Upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee, the application of C. A. G. A. TRAFFIC BEACONS BY THE AMERICAN GAS ACCUMULATOR COMPANY AND THE INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE THEREOF BY THE CITY OF AUSTIN, AND FOR THE SALE OF ADVERTISING SPACE THEREON BY THE AMERICAN GAS ACCUMULATOR COMPANY. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Copeland moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on its second reading. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The ordinanco was read the second time and Councilman Copeland moved that the rule be further suspended and the ordinance placed on its third reading and final passage. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5: The ordinance was read the third time and Councilman Copeland moved that the same do now finally pass.
