80 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, December 29,1922, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. Upon the recommendation of Sam D. Griffin, Chief of Police, Councilman Copeland nominated J. A. Gillespie as special policeman, with duties as night watchman. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland present but not voting. Upon the recommendation of Sam D. Griffin, Chief of Police, Councilman Copeland nominated J. W. Fariss as night clerk of the Police Department to succeed F. R. Tannehill resigned. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland not voting. Upon the recommendation of Sam D. Griffin, Chief of Police, Councilman Copeland nominated M. M. Hornsby as motorcycle policeman to succeed Wm. H. Scott, who has been promoted to the Detective Department. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayee, none, Councilman Copeland not voting. The Council then recessed, SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, January 2, 1923. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none, G. N. Holton and A. M. Vaughn of the State Fire Insurance Commission appeared before the Council and explained the key rate for the City of Austin for the year 1923. The bids of the Austin American and Austin Statesman for public printing for the City of Austin for the period beginning January 1st, 1923, and ending July 1st, 1923, were read and Councilman Haynes moved that the bid of the Austin Statesman be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Copeland moved that the bid of Oscar Ulit to furnish groceries to the City Hospital for the six months beginning January 1st, 1923, be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Copeland moved that the bid of Oscar Ulit to furnish meat to the City Hospital for the six months beginning January 1st, 1923, be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland moved that the bid of John R. Davis & Son to furnish and butter to the City Hospital for the six months sweet milk. butter milk i beginning January 1st, 1923, be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Councilman Copeland moved that the bid of Home Steam Laundry to do the laundry work for the City Hospital for the six months beginning January 1st, 1.923, be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland moved that the bid of Graham Drug Company to furnish drugs, prescriptions, etc., to the City of Austin for the six months beginning January 1st, 1923, be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Tyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Mundt to erect said pavilion, said bid being in the total sum of $18,052.00 and covering pavillion, plumbing and electrical wiring, with certain deductions as agreed upon, be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Fyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The deed of declaration and confirmation from A. J. Zilker to the City of Austin relating to Barton Springs property was received, read, and the City Clerk was instructed to cause same to be recorded in the deed records of Travis County, Texas.
