REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, March 08, 1923, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. Councilman Haynes moved that the reading of the Minutes of the last meetings be suspended until the next regular meeting. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Lyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayee, none. Upon motion of Councilman Haynes, the application of Alfred Harvey to erect an electric sign at %110 West 6th Street was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The petition of Mrs. P. G. Reynolds and others was read and Councilman Eyres moved that same be received and filed. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayeв, попе, M The application of G. A. Bahn to repair the building at #200 East Seventh Street was read and upon motion of Councilman Haynes, the same was referred to the Safety Committee by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of W. G. Franklin of the Grayburg 011 Company to erect two electric signs one at Ist Street and Congress Avenue, and one at East 16th Street and Congress Avenue, was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The Council then adjourned. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be adopted. Bengener and others asking that the city cooperate with certain parties interested in the opening of a highway from South Congress Avenue to Barton Creek, was read and same was ordered filed. Councilman Copeland nominated E. D. McCullough as Special Policeman at E. M. Scarbrough & Sons. Nomination was confirmed by the following 103 104 vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland present but not voting. The following reports were read and ordered filed: Joe T. Oliver, Business Manager of the City Hospital; Austin Street Railway Company; Robert Rockwood, Fire Marshal; Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector; W. A. Alff, City Sexton; C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department; Sam D. Griffin, Chief of Police were read and ordered filed. The application of Wall & Cabaniss to erect an electric sign at #208-10East 6th Street, upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee, was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The application of W. C. Arnett for permission to erect a filling station at the corner of Red River and East Sixth Streets, upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee, was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of the Barker Motor Company for permission to build an iron clad shed at #208-10-12 West 5th Street, upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee, was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The protest of Mrs. Louise Von Rosenberg and others, protesting against the extension of the Duval Street car line, was read and ordered filed. The application of the Austin Street Railway Company for permission to extend the line known as the Duval Street car line by a distance of approximately two thousand feet in a northerly direction along Duval Street from its present terminus, filed March 6, 1923, was read and Councilman Haynes moved that the application be granted, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Unit System experts in placing valuation on the East five (5) feet of Lot 5, and the west 39 feet of Lot 6, Blook 3, Outlot 77, Division "D", owned by H. E. Snodgrass for taxes of 1922, valued the property at $345.00 and the improvements at $1210.00, a total of $1555.00, but in the wark of transferring to the records of the Assessor and Collector the value of the lots was placed at $735.00 and the improvements at $2330.00, or a total of $3065.00, the value of some other property having evidently been taken by error, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to correct said assessment on his rolls and to take credit for the $1510.00 erroneously assessed. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The application of the E. W. Anderson Tire Company for permission to erect an open iron-clad shed in the rear of his place of business on East Sixth Street was granted upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres , Mayor Yett nominated Miss Annie Fuchs as municipal nurse of the City of Austin, term effective March 1, 1923. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Mayor Yett not voting. The Council then recessed. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: AUSTIN, TEXAS, MARCH 14, 1923. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; absent, none. The following bids for furnishing election supplies were opened and read: Von Boeckmann-Jones Company; Morgan Printing Company; E. L. Steck & Company; and Tobins. Councilman Bearight moved that the bid of Tobins be accepted as the best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The Council then adjourned.
