! REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: : Austin, Texas. March 22, 1923. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; absent, Councilman Copeland, The Minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight; 4, nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent, Councilman Searight introduced the following resolution: RESOLUTION ADOPTING GRADES FOR STREET RAILWAY TRACK ON DUVAL STREET FROM 30TH TO NORTH LINE OF 34TH STREETS AND ESTABLISHING THE CENTER LINE OF TRACK AND THE WIDTH OF ROADWAY BETWEEN CURBS. WHEREAS, the City Engineer, in accordance with instructions issued by the City Council has filed a report with the City Clerk giving grades or elevations for the street railway track on Duval Street from 30 th Street to the north line of 34th Street; also the alinement of the center of the track and the width of roadway between curbs; and WHEREAS, the Council has carefully examined said report and finds same correct, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That said grades, alinement of track and width of roadway between curbs, as submitted by the City Engineer, be and the same are hereby adopted. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent, Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, under the Unit System the improvements on 170x139-1/3 feet of the Isaac Decker League assessed by F. W. Adams and wife was valued for assessment at $1,676.00; and WHEREAS, Mr. Adams states that the full value of said improvements amounted to only $800.00 and that the value for assessment should not have been more than $540.00, the error having been made in assessing the improvements on an adjoining lot which does not belong to the said F. W. Adams, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to correct the error on his rolls for 1922 and place the value of $540.00 on Mr. Adams improvements and take credit for the difference of $1136.00. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Unit System experts in fixing the valuation of $3,070.00 on the improvements assessed to Emile Peschka on 87x142 feet of the west onehalf of Lot 1, Block 1, Outlot 56, Division "B" considered two buildings on said lot, whereas there is in fact only one building valued for taxation at $2,420.00, Therefore, 109 110 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to correct the error on his rolls for 1922 and place the value of the one building on said lot at $2,420.00 and to take credit for the difference. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Unit System experts in placing the valuation of the improvements on Block 1, Outlots 34 and 46, Division "o" owned by W. C. Blundell at $2,105.00 for taxes of 1922, included improvements to the amount of $650.00 placed on the property after January 1, 1922, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to correct the error made in the assessment on his rolls for 1922 and to take credit for the $650.00 deducted, leaving the valuation of the improvements at $1,455.00. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, it appears from the records that the Unit System experts placed the assessed value of improvements situated on Lot 2, Block "G", J. E. Bouldin's Addition assessed as "Unknown Owner" at the sum of $1,690.00, while in fact the amount should have been $695.00; and WHEREAS, the above error was caused by including improvements situated on the unplatted part of Block "G", Bouldin Addition, amounting to the sun of $995.00 which was no part of and did not appear to be situated on Lot 2, Block "G", Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the error be corrected so as to show the assessed value of improvements on above Lot 2, Block "G", Bouldin's Addition to be $695.00, instead of $1,690.00, and that the Collector take credit for the difference. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, under the Unit System a valuation of $5,000.00 was placed on the improvements on Lot 13 and two feet of Lot 14, Outlot 37, Division "D", owned by C. M. Miller for taxes of 1922, but in transferring to the records of the Assessor and Collector a clerical error was made and the valuation of said improvements was placed at $5,350.00, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to correct said error on his rolls for 1922 and to take credit Yor the amount of $350.00. The foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Unit System experts placed a value of $800.00 on the improvements on Lot 10, Outlet 29, Division "E", assessed in the name of James Bedford and now owned by J. I, Lowrance; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lawrance states that as a matter of fact there was only a little shack on said lot on January 1st, 1922, worth about. $100.00, Therefore, in consideration of the fact that there was error made in the valuation of said improvements, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be instructed to correct said error and permit Mr. Lawrance to pay on a valuation of $100.00, the correct value of said improvements for assessment and to take credit for the $700.00 reduction, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. The application of A. E. Schutze for permission to erect a drive-in filling station and storage tank one block east of Barton Creek bridge was read and same was granted, upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Eyres, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Copeland absent. The following certificate of Joe Hornsby, City Clerk, was read and ordered filed: To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, City of Austin, Texas. Gentlemen: "Austin, Texas, March 22,1923. Upon motion of Councilman Haynes the reading of the Minutes of the last meeting was suspended, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres absent. Councilman Copeland nominated Cantrel Giles as Special Policeman. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres, absent, Councilman Copeland present but not voting. Councilman Copeland nominated W. F. Adams as Special Policeman to assist in enforcing the traffic laws. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres absent, Councilman Copeland not voting. The application of C. O. P. Meyer to erect an iron-clad shed at #307 West 6th Street as a temporary building was read and Councilman Haynes moved that permit be granted, upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee.
