The Council then adjourned. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Deity Celest Austin, Texas, March 29, 1923. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; absent, Councilman Eyres. Upon motion of Councilman Haynes the reading of the Minutes of the last meeting was suspended, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres absent. Councilman Copeland nominated Cantrel Giles as Special Policeman. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres, absent, Councilman Copeland present but not voting. Councilman Copeland nominated W. F. Adams as Special Policeman to assist in enforcing the traffic laws. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres absent, Councilman Copeland not voting. The application of C. O. P. Meyer to erect an iron-clad shed at #307 West 6th Street as a temporary building was read and Councilman Haynes moved that permit be granted, upon the recommendation of the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres absent. 1 The application of the Texas State Exposition for permission to use and control portions of certain streets from October ist, 1923, to October 6th, 1923, inclusive, adjoining their exposition grounds and for permission to police same was read, and Councilman Haynes moved that the request be granted, same to be under the supervision of the City Engineer and Police Commissioner. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres absent. The monthly report of Jas. H. Maxwell, Sealer of Weights and Measures, was read and ordered filed. The annual report for 1922 of the Austin Gas Light Company was read and ordered filed., Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Board of Equalization makes the statement herewith attached of an error made by the Unit System experts in the valuation on Lot 1, Block 68, assessed to Mrs. M. P. Watson and recommend correction and reduction of the valuation to a total of $5,950.00, Therefore,, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to make correction of the assessment on his rolls for 1922, in accordance with the statement of the Board of Equalization attached, and to take credit for the amount of reduction.. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Tyres ab sent. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to correct the assessment of G. A. Parkinson on his property situated beyond Travis Heights on his rolls for 1922, in accordance with the recommendation of the Board of Equalization herewith attached, in order to correct an error in said assessment under the Unit System and to take credit for $465.00, amount of reduction, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres absent, Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, after a personal inspection of the improvements on Lot 15, Block 5, Outlet 47, Division "0", Riverside Addition, owned and assessed in the name of Mrs. Alfred Bach, A. W. Townsend, Chairman of the Board of Equalization, states that an evident error has been made in placing the value at $1465.00 as the improvements are in bad repair and only 20% was allowed for depreciation, whereas at least 30% under the Unit System should have been allowed and that $2.50 per square foot was charged on said improvements while the adjoining house in good repair was charged only $1.90 per square foot and that a correct assessment of these improvements should be $1000.00, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to make the correction on his rolls for 1922 and to take credit for the $465.00 reduction. 113 114 The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres absent. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, it appears from the statement of A. W. Townsend, Chairman of the Board of Equalization, herewith attached, that under the Unit System an error was made in placing the value of the improvements situated on Lot 10, Block 9, Outlot 34, Division "B", assessed to Wm. Perry at $1510.00, when the correct calculation of the value under the Unit System should have been $800.00, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to make the correction on his rolle for 1922, reducing the valuation of said improvements to the correct amount of $800.00 and to take credit for the difference of $710.00. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Counoilman Eyres absent. Councilman Kaynes introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to correct the assessment of property owned by Otto Schlemens for 1922 in accordance with recommendation of the Chairman of the Board of Equalization herewith attached, and to take credit for amount of reduction. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Copeland, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Eyres absent.
