    The W. A. Harper Subdivision plat was officially adopted, allowing for new development in Outlots 7 and 8 of Division "C."
  • Special Policeman Appointed:

    R. E. Farquehar was nominated and confirmed as a special policeman for the city.
  • Cemetery Funds Reallocated:

    $600 was transferred within the Oakwood Cemetery Fund to balance the Sexton's salary account for the remainder of the year.

REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL: Total - $1,000,00 -10.000.00 $11,000.00 (Sgd) W. D. Yett, Mayor; 11 H. L. Haynes, Councilman; 11 11 C. N. Avery, Councilman; Harry W. Nolen, Councilman; Geo. P. Searight, Councilman," Austin. Texas. September 27.1923. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE PLAT OF THE W. A. HARPER SUBDIVISION OF PARTS OF OUTLOTS 7 AND 8, DIVISION "C" IN THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TRAVIS COUNTY, TEXAS. Whereas, W. A. Harper has filed with the City Clerk a plat of a subdivision of parts of Outlots 7 and 8 of Division "C" and known as the W. A. Harper Subdivision of parts of Outlots 7 and 8, Division "C", in the City of Austin, Texas, and Whereas, the Council has carefully examined said plat, the names and width of streets and alleys and general layout of said Subdivision, and the same having been approved by the City Engineer, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That said Subdivision of hereinabove described property be and the same is hereby adopted and approved. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Upon the recommendation of Capt. J. H. Rogers, City Marshal, Councilman Nolen nominated R. E. Farquehar as special policeman of the City of Austin. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Nolen present but not voting. Councilman Searight introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That the sum of Six Hundred Dollars ($600.00) be and the same is hereby ordered transferred from the unassigned appropriations in the Oakwood Cemetery Fund to the account of Sexton's salary to balance this account to the end of the present year. The above resolution was adopted by the following resolution: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Holen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. The reading of the Minutes of the last meetings was suspended. The monthly reports of the Assessor and Collector, A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher, Public Health Nursing Association, and W. D. Walker, Dairy Inspector, were read and ordered filed. The petition of W. Grimmer and others, asking that 34th Street be opened up and worked was read and referred to Councilman Searight by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of Mrs. V. L. Hightower to erect two signs at 900 Brazos Street was read and Councilman Haynes moved that the same be refused for the reasons stated in the report of the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5 nayes, none. The application of Harper & Linscomb to erect a sign in front of 210 West 13th Street was read and Councilman Haynes moved that the application be granted as recommended by the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. H. F. Kuehne, acting for the Lake Austin Transportation Company, appeared before the City Council and presented a check in payment of commissions, as per contract with the city and same was turned over to the Assessor and Collector. The petition of Greenwood Company and others, asking that the one hour parking ordinance be extended north to 10th Street, was read and Councilman Searight moved that action upon the petition be deferred.
