the present year. The above resolution was adopted by the following resolution: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Holen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then adjourned. es fornsby REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: i : Austin, Texas, October 4th, 1923. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. The reading of the Minutes of the last meetings was suspended. The monthly reports of the Assessor and Collector, A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher, Public Health Nursing Association, and W. D. Walker, Dairy Inspector, were read and ordered filed. The petition of W. Grimmer and others, asking that 34th Street be opened up and worked was read and referred to Councilman Searight by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of Mrs. V. L. Hightower to erect two signs at 900 Brazos Street was read and Councilman Haynes moved that the same be refused for the reasons stated in the report of the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5 nayes, none. The application of Harper & Linscomb to erect a sign in front of 210 West 13th Street was read and Councilman Haynes moved that the application be granted as recommended by the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. H. F. Kuehne, acting for the Lake Austin Transportation Company, appeared before the City Council and presented a check in payment of commissions, as per contract with the city and same was turned over to the Assessor and Collector. The petition of Greenwood Company and others, asking that the one hour parking ordinance be extended north to 10th Street, was read and Councilman Searight moved that action upon the petition be deferred. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: 193 194 WHEREAS, it appears from statement of Dr. A. Caswell Ellis, which has been verified by the Assessor and Collector, that a clerical error was made in the valuation placed on his property, Lot 15, Blook 12, Outlots 15, 16 and 17, Division "D", Whitis Addition, by the Unit System experts, making a double assessment and increasing the total valuation from the correct amount of $4895.00 to $6370.00, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to make the proper correction of the assessment of said Ellis on his rolls for 1922 and to take credit for amount of correction. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Nolen nominated J. A. Ascevedo as special policeman of the City of Austin. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Nolen present but not voting. The communication of B. H. Miller complaining of obstructions near 410 East 19th Street was read and ordered filed. J.Lee Snodgrass was appointed Assistant Judge of the Ist Ward for the election to be held October 27th, 1923, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Ted Tobin was appointed Presiding Judge of the election in Second Ward on October 27th, 1923, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. 0. 0.
