Councilman Haynes moved that the reading of the Minutes of the last meetings be suspended. Councilman Searight moved that the fine and costs in Cause No. 18303 in the Corporation Court against Morris Harkins be remitted. Gentlemen: In accordance with a provision of Sub-division 2 of Section 2 of Article 12 of the Charter of the City of Austin, as amended, the Board of Trustees of the Public Free Schools of the City, at a meeting held on the 17th day of December, 1923, determined, and you are hereby so advised, that the amount of taxes that shall be levied and collected for the year 1923 for the maintenance of said public free schools, is sixty (60) cents on the one hundred dollars worth of taxable property in the City of Austin, Respectfully submitted, (Sgd) George M. Councilman Avery entered the Council Chamber at 10:30. Councilman Searight introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING INTERNATIONAL-GREAT NORTHERN RAILROAD COMPANY TO CONSTRUCT, OPERATE AND MAINTAIN A SPUR TRACK OVER AND ACROSS THE ALLEY RUNNING THROUGH CITY BLOCK NO. 21, AND OVER AND ACROSS LAVACA STREET IN THE CITY OF AUSTIN, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SERVING THE SOUTH ONE-HALF OF CITY BLOCK NO. 20, SUBJECT TO CERTAIN CONDITIONS. The ordinance was read the first time. On motion of Councilman Avery the rule was suspended and said ordinance was passed to its second reading by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Nolen absent. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. Councilman Avery moved that the advisory committee of the Chamber of Commerce for the filtration plant, originally appointed, together with the Board of Trustees of the Austin Public Free Schools, be re-appointed to advise with the City Council in the sale of the bonds, fixing of maturities, etc. Councilman Searight moved that the motion of Councilman Avery be laid upon the table, subject to call. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, Councilmen Avery and Nolen. Mayor Yett then ordered roll call on Councilman'Avery's original motion. Motion lost by the following vote: Ayes, Councilman Avery; Nayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; Councilman Haynes moved to instruct the City Attorney, J. Bouldin Rector, to prepare specifications of a proposal for bids for the city bonds voted December 24th, 1923, said bonds to be sold January 10, 1924. Councilman Searight introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the following prices are established for the sale of lots in Section "F" of Oakwood Cemetery Annex: (1) For Lots Nos. 1 to 22, both inclusive, 334 per square foot; (2) For lots Nos. 23 to 52, both inclusive, 324 per square foot. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none.
