Upon the recommendation of C. E. Leonard, City Engineer, and Jno. B. Hawley Consulting Engineer, Councilman Avery moved that the bid of J. F. Johnson for the building of the Water Filtration Plant be accepted as the lowest and best bid on Item #1 as specified. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. , Upon the recommendation of C. E. Leonard, City Engineer, and Jno. B. Hawley Consulting Engineer, Councilman Avery moved that the bid of the International Filter Company of Chicago be accepted as the lowest and best bid on Item #2 covering six beds and that the City Attorney be instructed to draw up proper contracts with the said J. F. Johnson and the International Filter Company of Chicago, and that the City C lerk be instructed to return certified checks to unsuccessful bidders. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Bearight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then adjourned. Roll call showed the following members present; Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Sea- right, 5; absent, none. Councilman Haynes moved that the reading of the Minutes of the last meetings be suspended, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. R. G. Mueller presented a petition asking that the name of Sidon Street be changed to Frances Avenue. Councilman Haynes moved that the petition be referred to the City Engineer and Councilman Searight for their report back to the Council. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. i. A. Ladd appeared before the Council on behalf of the IOOF and IORM and asked that the C. A. Wortham Shows be granted permission to show on East Avenue in this city from April 28th to May 3rd, inclusive. Councilman Avery moved that permit be granted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That 25% of the ad valorem taxes collected for 1923 be and is hereby apportioned to the General Street Fund, as per Budget of 1924, and the Assessor and Collector is hereby instructed to make such apportionment of the ad valorem taxes of 1923 collected by him and for prior years. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The petition of J. A. Hutchins and other residents of 43rd Street, Hyde Park, asking that lights be installed was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to Councilman Avery. Motion prevailed by the following vote: 263 264 Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The Mayor laid before the Council the budget of the City of Austin for the year 1924 and same was laid over for final adoption until the next regular meeting. AFTERNOON SESSION: The following bids for auditing the books of the Water and Light Department were opened and read: Morgan, Pickett & Hill of Dallas and Austin; T. B. Trotter Company of Houston, Texas; E. J. Archinard of Fort Worth, Техве; Ernst & Ernst of Houston, Texas; Alamo Auditing Company of San Antonio, Texав; Huddleston & Smith of Austin, Техав. After hearing statements from several representatives of the bidders, awarding of contract was postponed for investigation and consideration of each bid. The Council then recessed, SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, March 28th, 1924. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. After a careful consideration of all bids for the auditing of the book of the Water and Light Department, Councilman Searight moved that the bid of T. B. Trotter & Company of Houston for an audit of the books for a period of one year be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then recessed, SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, March 31, 1924, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll coll showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none, Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, it is ofter impossible for members of the Fire Department, the Police Department and the City Hospital to be relieved from duty to collect their salary warrants in person, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN:
