288 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin. Texas. April 11. 1924. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Searight, 4; absent, Councilman Nolen. Councilman Searight introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, bids were advertised for the construction of a storm water sewer, ourb, cement gutter and combination ourb and gutter; and WHEREAS, on the 10th day of April, 1924, said bids were received and opened by the City Council; and WHEREAS, the bid of Wallace R. Miller was the lowest and best bid for the construction of the storm water sewer and curb, Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN; That the bid of Wallace R. Miller for ourb and storm water sewer be and the same is hereby accepted and the City Attorney be and he is hereby instructed to prepare a contract, and the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into contract with said Wallace R. Miller, said contract to be in accordance with plans and specifications. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Nolen absent. The Council then adjourned. i ! REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Buy Halerk Austin, Texas. April 17, 1924. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. Councilman Searight moved that Eldon C. Jones, Director of the Jones Concert Band be employed to furnish music for municipal concerts for the season of 1924, according to terms of contract to be drawn up at a later date. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Searight moved that Councilman Avery be authorized to enter into agreement with the Aetna Life Insurance Company for a group policy for the employees of the Water and Light Department, insuring said employees in the sum of $1000 each. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The petition of Tom Attal and others, asking that lights be placed in the alley-ways in the rear of business houses on East 6th Street, was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to Councilman Avery. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. !
