Austin: Engineer Honored, New Power Chief, Signs
- The city formally honored T. P. Johnson, the Chief Engineer and Superintendent of the Power Plant, for nearly 40 years of dedicated service following his passing.
- H. L. Newton was appointed as the new Chief Engineer for the vital Water, Light, and Power Department, succeeding the late Mr. Johnson.
- Several applications were approved for new business signage, including electric signs for establishments on East 6th Street and Congress Avenue.

RESOLUTION OF THE DEATH OF MR. T. P. JOHNSON. REGULAR KEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin. Texas, May 29, 1924 The Council was called to order by the Mayor, Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Wolen and Bearight, 5; absent, none, The application of the Cargill Sign Company to erect a sign for the Texas Rank & Truet (lamnany on Hant. Ath Street... together with the TAGommendation WHEREAS, Mr. 7. P. Johnson, Chief Engineer and Superintendent of the Power Plant for the City of Austin, has been called to his reward; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to recognize the efficient, faithful, and honorable services he has rendered the City of Austin for nearly forty years; and WHEREAS, few cities have bad such service as rendered by Mr. Johnson, not only as an engineer of great ability, but also as an advisor, whose faithful counsel has at all times been worthy and acceptable to the various city officials, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council assembled offer this resolution to his memory; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: ✓ That a page of the Minutes of the City Council be set aside and dedicated to his memory, and that a copy of this resolution be. spread thereon; and that a copy be mailed to the faithful widow of the deceased, That the City Clerk be and he is hereby instructed to issue a warrant for the amount of $2.35 to Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector, against the General Fund, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Avery moved that the City Attorney, J. B. Rector, be granted ten days leave of absence. Liotion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Holen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Avery nominated H. L. Newton as Chief Engineer of the Water, Light and Power Department to succeed W. P. Johnson, deceased. Patty to erect an electric sign at 702 Congress Avenue, together with the recommendation of the Safety Committee, was read and granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of Bengener Bros, to erect an electric sign at 817 Congress Avenue, together with the recommendation of the Safety Committee, was read and granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Minutes of the last meetings were read and adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the City Council by resolution passed and approved on May 22,1924, corrected an assessment of one automobile rendered by Miss Ermie Winterich for taxes of 1923, said correction making a reduction of $2.35 in the amount of taxes; an d WHEREAS, in the meantime the taxes having been paid on the erroneous assessment and the $2.35 reduction refunded by the Assessor and Collector, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Clerk be and he is hereby instructed to issue a warrant for the amount of $2.35 to Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector, against the General Fund, The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Avery moved that the City Attorney, J.
