REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: : : Austin, Texas, June 19. 1924. The Council was called to order. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Senright, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Haynes were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. A committee from the Volunteer Firemen's Association, composed of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, George Mendell and Julius Schutze appeared before the Council and presented the following resolution: WHEREAS, The Austin Volunteer Firemen's Association is making an effort to preserve all relics and matters of historical interest of the early and former days of fire-fighting in Austin; and WHEREAS, the officials of the Fire Department have permitted the use of the West Austin Fire Station for this purpose, and many historical relics of the old fire department have been placed in the auditorium of said station, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the use of the auditorium of the West Austin Fire Station be granted to the Austin Volunteer Firemen's Association, both as a permanent meeting place and as a place to keep and preserve the relics and mementoes of the former days of Austin's fire-fighting history; that same be kept locked and closed, except for the above and such other meetings as may be held therein from time to time. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Upon the recommendation of J. N. Pittlepage, City Marshal, Councilman Holen nominated Lafayette Rogers as special policeman, with duties as special nightwatchman at the State Capitol Building. Nomination was confirmed by the following resolution: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Searight, 4.; nayes, none, Councilman Nolen present but not voting. The monthly reports of C. N. Avery, Superintendent of the Water, Light and Power Department, R. E. Nitschke, City Sexton, Mrs. E. Schulz, Superintendent of Nurses, and Geo. P. Searight, Superintendent of Streets and Public Improvements, were read and ordered filed. The application of N. C. Parrish and Sam Sparks to remodel and repair the building at 109-11 East 6th Street was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to the Street Commissioner and City Engineer. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of the English Sign Company to erect an electric sign at //221 Congress Avenue was read and referred to the Safety Committee by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Nolen moved that Councilman Haynes be authorized to approve the claim of the American Railway Express Company for $74.79, the Merchants 311 : 312 Transfer Company's claim for $56.85, expenses incurred in the removal of traffic beacons from Congress Avenue. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Searight moved that Councilman Haynes be authorized to approve the claim of the Swann-Schulle Furniture Company for $100.00 and the claim of ace J. O. Buaas for $114.80 against the City Hospital-Fund. Motion prevailed by th following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The claim of the North American Lloyd Insurance Company for damages to the automobile of W. R. Weber was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be referred to the City Attorney. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then recessed, AFTERNOON SESSION: The Mayor introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE ORDERING AN ELECTION IN THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS, TO BE HELD ON THE 9TH DAY OF AUGUST, A. D. 1924, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF SAID CITY, PROPOSITIONS TO ADOPT CERTAIN AMENDMENTS TO THE EXISTING CHARTER OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Haynes moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The ordinance was read the second time and CouncilmanHaynes moved that the same be passed to its third reading and final passage, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The ordinance was read the third time and Councilman Nolen moved that same do now finally pass. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then adjourned. sousby
