314 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, July 3. 1924. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Haynes same were adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of P. G. Roach to construct an iron olad building within the fire limits was read and referred to the Safety Committee. The petition of Edgar Collins for a refund of a part of the fine assessed againe him in the Corporation Court was read and Councilman Haynes moved that Five Dollars of the fine be refunded to said Edgar Collins and that the City Clerk be authorized to draw warrant out of the General Fund in payment of same. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The petition of J. H. Whitis and others, asking that West 32nd Street be improved was read and upon motion of Councilman Avery was referred to Councilman Searight by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes moved that the bid of Rosengren-Cook for coffins and amublance service for white paupers be accepted as lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5 nayes, none. The bids of the Austin Statesman and the Austin American for printing for the period ending December 31, 1924, were read and Councilman Haynes moved that the bid of the Austin American be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Senright, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Searight moved that all bids for hardware, cement, lumber and feed be declined. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The bids of the Home Steam Laundry and the Austin Laundry and Dry Cleaning Company were read and Councilman Haynes moved that the bid of the Austin Laundry and Dry Cleaning Company be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight 5; nayes, none. The bids of Ben Garza and Oscur Ulit to furnish meat to the City Hospital were read and Mayor Yett moved that the bid of Oscar Ulit be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The bids of Oscar Ulit and William Wellmer to furnish groceries to the City Hospital were read and Mayor Yett moved that the bid of Oscar Ulit be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The bids of Bryant Creamery, J. R. Davis & Son, J. A. Mayfield and Meyer Creamery were read and Mayor Yett moved that the bid of J. R. Davis & Son to supply sweet milk and butter be accepted as the lowest and best bid and that the bid of Meyer Creamery Company for butter milk be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. A summary of warrante issued against the General Fund of the City during the month of May was read and ordered filed, The reports of Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector, W. D. Walker, Dairy Inspector, and Miss Anna Fuchs, Municipal Nurse, were read and ordered filed, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The bids of Griffith Drug Company, Evans-Cox Drug Company and Greenwood Drug Company to furnish drugs and medical supplies to the City Hospital were read and Mayor Yett moved that all bids for drugs and prescriptions be rejected, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery,, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Holen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Bearight absent. The petition of W. L. Stark, N. A. Ladd, Jim Osborne, and d. Burge petitioning the Council to pass an ordinance permitting them to keep open the parking space at the entrance to the different hotels, was read, and Councilman Haynes moved that the petition be referred to the City Attorney, with instructions to draw an ordinance governing same. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searicht absent. The communication of C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department, asking permission to attend the International Association of Fire Engineers at Buffalo, New York, was read and Councilman ilaynes moved that same be granted, and that the expenses for said trip be paid out of the Fire Department.
