REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas. July 17. 1924 The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Avery moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Nolen nominated W. T. Buchanan as special policeman, Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Nolen present but not voting. Councilman Searight introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, A, F. Martin is the owner of all the property hereinafter described and has made application to the City Council to close the certain alley and street hereinafter described, and the Council has carefully considered said application and has found that the granting of same will not impair the rights or convenience of any individual property holder or the citizens at large; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the alley running north and south, approximately a distance of 396 feet, between Lots 2 and 3 of Mrs. T. Martin, et al Subdivision of Original Lots 3, 4, 11 and 12 of the George W. Spear Grant in the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas, be and the same is hereby perpetually closed and vacated; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the part of the street abutting 168 feet on the south side of Lots 2, 3, and the above described alley and also abutting 155 feet on the north side of Lot 4, of Mrs. T. Martin et al. Subdivision of Original Lots 3, 4, 11, and 12, of the George W.Spear Grant in the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas, said 168 feet extending from the east line of the I&GN Right of Way to the west line of a 40 foot street which is to be dedicated for public use, and said 155 feet extending from the east line of the I&GN Right of Way to the west line of a 50 foot street which is to be dedicated for public use, be and the same is hereby perpetually closed and vacated. Councilman Haynes moved that the above resolution be adopted, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Warren W. Moore, Attorney for Mrs. E. A. Head, appeared before the Council and Councilman Haynes moved that the City Attorney be instructed to enter agreed judgment in favor of Richard R. Head in the sum of $350.00 in Cause No. 40768, styled Mrs. E. A. Head vs. City of Austin on the docket of the 53rd District Court. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, liolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Woodmen of the World of Austin and Georgetown and surrounding country will hold an outing and picnic at Deep Eddy on July 18,1924, under the auspices of the uniform ranks of the order; and 317 318 WHEREAS, a large number of the employees of the City belong to the order and desire to enjoy the occasion with their friends and families, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the employees of each Department of the city, where practicable and are hereby granted a holiday for this occasion and that the offices in the City Hall be closed at 12 o'clock noon on that day. be Councilman Nolen moved that the above resolution be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Avery asked to be excused from Council meeting and request was granted. The application of the Cargill Company for permission to erect an electric sign at the Austin Hotel was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. Councilman Searight moved that the Mayor be authorized to execute contract covering construction of Spur track of I&GN Railway Company connecting with the city switch at the Water and Light Plant and across Shoal Creek, and upon acceptance of said contract by the Railroad Company the City Clerk be instructed to file a copy thereof in the city's files. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. The petition of T. L. Tumey asking that certain street improvements be made was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to Councilman Searight. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. The monthly statement of the City Auditor of warrants issued against the General Fund and the reports of R. E. Nitschke, City Sexton, Jas. H. Maxwell, Sealer of Weights and Measures, for the month of June were read and ordered filed. The Council then recessed, SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, July 22, 1924, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. Councilman Nolen moved that J. B. Rector, City Attorney, be instructed to contract with the Coppedge Company of Texas, as per plans and specifications submitted, and report back to the Council at its next regular meeting, July 24th, 1924.
