REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, October 9. 1924. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none, The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Avery moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Avery moved that the American National Bank be granted permission to erect a highway lighthouse at a point on South Congress Avenue with its intersection with the Barton Springs road, in the place occupied by the Red-flex sign, same to be erected under the supervision of the City Engineer. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Nolen, 4; nayes, Councilman Searight. Councilman Nolen nominated W. H. H111 as policeman of the City of Austin to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of F. C. Crittenden, such appointment to be effective from October 1st, 1924, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Nolen present but not voting. The bids of Jno. L. Martin of Austin, Texas, and Wharton & Kirkwood of San Antonio, Texas, for the laying of certain water mains according to certain plans and specifications previously adopted by the City Council were read and Councilman Haynes moved that said bids be referred to the City Engineer for his comparison and report back to the City Council. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes moved that the bid of the Superior Incinerator Company of Texas for the construction of one 75 ton capacity garbage disposal plant for $39,500.00 be accepted, subject to the approval of the City Engineer and City Attorney, with certain changes to be made in the plans and specifications submitted, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, Councilman Haynes moved that Councilman Avery repair the tower light on East 8th Street and Brazos Street.
