348 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas. October 10, 1924 The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the fol lowing members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none, The application of the Jack Schafer Carnival Company, by the Board of Directors of the Texas State Exposition, asking for permission to show on East Avenue between Fifth and Sixth Streets was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be granted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The Council then recessed. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, October 13. 1924. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. The following report of C. E. Leonard, City Engineer, was read and ordered recorded in the Minutes of the City Council: To the Honorable Mayor & City Council, City of Austin, Texas. Gentlemen: "Austin, Texas, October 10, 1924. I desire to report as follows on the bids received on the 9th day of October, 1924, for the laying of certain water mains according to plans and specifications previously adopted by the City Council: BID OF KIRDWOOD & WHARTON OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS: To. 1000 lineal feet of 24" cast iron pipe, as per plans and specificatione and cited in signed proposal @ $6.75 per lineal foot ----$ 6,750.00 Το 15.5 cu, yds. rock excavation $10.00 per cubic yardTo 11.95 cubic yards concrete as per specifications @ $18.00 per cubic yard ----- ---------- Το 1 - 24" Gate Valve set in place according, to specifications Total amount bid - Time required to complete work, 45 working days, being governed according to specifications. BID OF JOHN L. MARTIN, AUSTIN, TEXAS : To laying of 1000 lineal feet of 24" diameter pipe and all work as specified in specifications, including rock excavation and concrete, setting of valves, etc. Time required to complete work, 75 working days, being governed according to specifications. - 155.00 215.10 25.00 $ 7,145.10 $10,986.00 I call your attention to the difference in the two bids, same being $3,840.90 in favor of Kirkwood & Wharton, and, also, a difference of 30 days in the time required to complete work.
