354 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, November 6. 1924. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; absent, Councilmen Avery and Nolen. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be approved; Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Avery and Nolen absent, The application of A. Reed Pena to install a gasoline tank and pump at 1110 Chicon Street, together with report of the Safety Committee upon same, was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be granted as recommended by the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Avery and Nolen absent. The communication of Mrs. E. B. Robinson complaining of condition of si dewalk in front of her place at 7th and West Avenue was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to Councilman Searight. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Avery and Nolen absent, The monthly reports of Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector, W. D. Walker, Dairy Inspector, A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher, and Mrs. R. C. Walker, Pure Food Inspector, and the Public Health Nursing Association were read and ordered filed, The communication of T. U. Taylor relative to the establishment of a high water mark reached during the flood of 1869 in the Colorado River was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to the City Engineer, the Superintendent of the Water, Light and Power Department, and the Street Commissioner for their report back to the Council. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Avery and Nolen absent. The application of Morley Bros. for permission to erect an electric sign at 209 East 6th Street was read and referred to the Safety Committee by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Avery and Nolen absent. The communication of J. T. Bowman in regard to the straightening of streets on Lots 15 and 16 was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to the City Engineer. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Avery and Nolen absent. The application of Harley De Pew to erect a sign over the corner of Congress Avenue and East 5th Street was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee for report back to the Council. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Avery and Nolen absent. Claims against the City Hall Fund, aggregating $732.94, were presented and Councilman Searight moved that same be approved and ordered paid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Avery and Nolen absent. mayor Yett introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the City Council is advised that the officials, cadet corps, and student body of the Agricultural and Mechanical College purposes to visit Austin upon the occasion of the Thanksgiving football game at Memorial Stadium, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the most cordial greetings and good will of the City of Austin be extended to our prospective visitors upon said occasion; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Mayor communicate this resolution to the President of said College. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Avery and Nolen absent. The application of Harley De Pew for permission to erect an electric sign upstairs over the corner of East 5th Street and Congress Avenue together with the Safety Committee's report on same, was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be granted as recommended, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Safety Committee's report on the application of Korley Drug Company to erect an electric sign at 209 East 6th Street was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be granted.
