  • Thanksgiving Football Festivities:

    Extended a cordial welcome to visiting A&M College officials and students for the upcoming Thanksgiving football game, also approving street closures around Memorial Stadium for the event.
  • New Downtown Advertising:

    Approved permits for electric signs for businesses at prominent locations, including the corner of East 5th Street and Congress Avenue and on East 6th Street.
  • City Property Acquisition:

    Authorized the city attorney and a councilman to finalize the purchase of property at East 1st Street and San Antonio Street.

WHEREAS, the City Council is advised that the officials, cadet corps, and student body of the Agricultural and Mechanical College purposes to visit Austin upon the occasion of the Thanksgiving football game at Memorial Stadium, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the most cordial greetings and good will of the City of Austin be extended to our prospective visitors upon said occasion; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Mayor communicate this resolution to the President of said College. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Avery and Nolen absent. The Council then adjourned. # From Stadium south to 19th Street; north to 24th; west to Duval and east to Sabine Street. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, November 13.1924 The Council was called to order by the Mayor.. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none, The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be adopted, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Prof. L. 1. Bellmont appeared before the Council and asked permission to close the following streets around the Stadium on Thanksgiving Day from 11:30 A. M. to 5:30 P. M.. Permission was granted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of Harley De Pew for permission to erect an electric sign upstairs over the corner of East 5th Street and Congress Avenue together with the Safety Committee's report on same, was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be granted as recommended, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Safety Committee's report on the application of Korley Drug Company to erect an electric sign at 209 East 6th Street was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be granted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Holen and Searight, 5; nпауев, none. Councilman Searight moved that Councilman Haynes, together with the City Attorney, J. Bouldin Rector, be authorized and instructed to close trade 355 356 with A. J. Zilker, or his agent, for property located on the corner of East Ist Street and San Antonio Street, motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The monthly reports of J. N. Littlepage, City Marshal, for the month of October, J. H. Maxwell, Sealer of Weights and Measures, for the months of September and October, and the financial statement of the Sewer Department for the month of October, 1924, were read and ordered filed. Burris to install a gasoline pump at 4008 Alice Avenue, together with the Committee's report upon same, was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be adopted, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The application of C. W. Davis to install a gasoline station at the corner of West Avenue and 32nd Street was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Rector, City Attorney, be authorized to make settlement in Cause 35608, Uity of Austin vs. H. P. N. Uammel and others, and report back to the Council. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Holen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The petition of Cecil Wieland, asking for a remission of fine assessed against him, was read and Councilman Nolen moved that the fine be remitted. Nitschke, City Sexton, were read and ordered filed. Councilman ilaynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the unrendered roll of 1921 shows an error in assessment of "90 x 75" feet of Outlot 3, Division "Z", unplatted part of Terrace Park, in that the assessment should have been "80 x 75" feet, the correct amount; and WHEREAS, David Wire, the owner of said property, having paid the taxes on said erroneous assessment, is entitled to a refund of $4.86, excess. paid by reason of said erroneous assessment,
