Austin Boosts Clean Water Infrastructure

REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, December 11.1924. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilman Searight, 2; absent, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Nolen, 3; There being no quorum present, the Council recessed.. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: ! Austin, Texas, December 16, 1924. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Searight, 4; absent, Councilman Nolen. Councilman Avery introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the International Filter Company of Chicago, Illinois, has presented to the City Council the following proposals on the construction of the Austin Filtration Plant, to-wit: (1) For the work of furnishing all materials, apparatus, appliances, piping, valves, specials and fittings, together with all tools, equipment and labor necessary to install, erect, fully equip, and complete two (2) additional filters, making a total of eight (8) filter beds of approximately 1,250,000 U.S. Gallons per 24 hours capacity each, in the building, as set out in the plans and specifications, including operating tables and all equipment as specified for in the Engineer's plans and specifications as adopted by the City Council, for the sum of Ten Thousand, Six Hundred Dollars ($10,600.00); (2) To furnishing one twenty-four inch (24") raw water hydraulic inlet control valve and eight (8) automatic controller shut-offs, the sum of Two Thousand, Seven Hundred Dollars ($2,700.00); (3) To changing three No. 1 dry feeders to three No. 2 proportional dry feeders; Enlarging the two Manual International wet line feeders and making same proportional: Furnishing and installing Venturi Tube and necessary differential mechanisms to make entire chemical feeding apparatus proportional: Allowances being made for slacking devices which will not be necessary under this arrangement. All included in this Section 3 to cost Seven Thousand, Fifty Dollars ($7,050.00), Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the proposals as above outlined be and the same are hereby adopted and approved and that Major John B. Hawley, Consulting Engineer, be and he is hereby requested and directed to give the proper notice for the installation and 365 366 performance of the work as above outlined. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Nolen absent. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; absent, Councilman Avery. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent, The application of J. M. Gallaher to erect a wholesale and retail gasoline station near the corner of Comal and East 5th Streets was read and Councilman Bearight moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. The application of D. D. Burratti to install a gasoline tank at 1007 East 6th Street was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. The application of 0. 0. Terrell to erect an electric sign in the two hundred block on West 6th Street was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. The application of Billy Ebner to erect electric signs at Sutor Hotel, the Nitschke Tire Company at 305 Brazos Street, and 115 West 6th Street was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. Claims against the City Hall Fund, in the amount of $39.66, were presented to the Council and Councilman Nolen moved that same be ordered paid, Wotion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. Communication of Jack Sayers, asking that the city reimburse him in the amount of $40.00, being part payment on account of damages sustained to his automobile by reason of fire truck colliding with same, was read and Councilman
