The Council then adjourned, Gol Jomaby City REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, December 18, 1924. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; absent, Councilman Avery. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent, The application of J. M. Gallaher to erect a wholesale and retail gasoline station near the corner of Comal and East 5th Streets was read and Councilman Bearight moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. The application of D. D. Burratti to install a gasoline tank at 1007 East 6th Street was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Terrell to erect an electric sign in the two hundred block on West 6th Street was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. The application of Billy Ebner to erect electric signs at Sutor Hotel, the Nitschke Tire Company at 305 Brazos Street, and 115 West 6th Street was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. Claims against the City Hall Fund, in the amount of $39.66, were presented to the Council and Councilman Nolen moved that same be ordered paid, Wotion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. Communication of Jack Sayers, asking that the city reimburse him in the amount of $40.00, being part payment on account of damages sustained to his automobile by reason of fire truck colliding with same, was read and Councilman Nolen moved that the claim be allowed. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. Upon the recommendation of the Chief of the Fire Department, Councilman Nolen nominated Geo. F. Kreuger and Fred Quist as firemen. Nominations were confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; nayes, none, Councilman Nolen present but not voting, Councilman Avery absent. Judge D. J. Pickle appeared before the Council and presented a petition signed by W. J. Smith and other residents near State Street, asking that their property be taken into the city limite for school purposes only. Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to the City Attorney for the proper resolution. Avery, Superintendent of the Water, Light and Power Department, C. L. Woodward, Chief of the Fire Department W. R. Davis, Bookkeeper of the Sewer Department, Miss Nellie M. Hall, Secretary United Charities, R. E. Nitschke, City Sexton, and J. N. Littlepage, City Marshal, were read and ordered filed,. Councilman Haynes introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE FIXING AND LEVYING MUNICIPAL TAXES FOR THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS, FOR THE YEAR A. D. 1924. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Haynes moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. The ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Haynes moved a further suspension of the rule and the ordinance placed on its third reading and final passage. The ordinance was read the third time and Councilman Haynes moved that same do now finally pass.
