372 Councilmen Avery Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then recessed, SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas. January 2. 1925. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following : members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. Judge K. E. Cofer appeared before the Council and presented argument showing that the municipal election could not be legally held on February 2, 1925. Councilman Nolen moved that the Mayor be instructed to issue proclamation and notice of general election for the election of city councilmen on February 2nd, 1925, in accordance with the provisions of Article 17 of the city charter as amended August 9th, 1924. Motion lost by the following vote: Nayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; ayes, Councilmen Avery and Nolen, 2, Councilman Nolen moved that the City Council order the general election for election of City Councilmen to be held February 2, 1925, in accordance with provisions of Article 17 of the City Charter as amended August 9th, 1924, Motion lost by the following vote: Nayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; ayes Councilmen Avery and Nolen, 2. Weed and Rosengren-Cook for furnishing coffins and ambulance service for white paupers for six months beginning January 1st, 1925, were read and Councilman Haynes moved that the bid of Rosengren-Cook be accepted as the lowest and best bid, Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Bids of Austin American and Austin Statesman for public printing for six months beginning January 1st, 1925, were read and Councilman Haynes moved that the bid of the Austin Statesman be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Bids for laundry work for City Hospital were read and Mayor Yett moved that the bid of the Home Steam Laundry be accepted as the lowest and best bid. Motion : ! These appropriations are intended to be merely temporary and will be substituted by the appropriations of the General Budget, which, presumably, will be passed on or before day of A. D. 1925. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none, The Mayor introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, D. B. Gracy, City Treasurer, has heretofore given his collateral bond to the City of Austin for faithful keeping of the proceeds from the sale of Austin City Bonds of the issue of 1924 and has deposited therefor with the American National Bank of Austin as trustee certain securities, of which securities there still remains $100,000.00 of Hawaii Bonde; and WHEREAS, there remains in said bond fund now only about $60,000.00 and said Treasurer is desirous of withdrawing said securities and substituting therefor Liberty Bonds of the United States, to the amount of $15,000,00, and United States Treasury Bonds-1944-4%, in the sum of $40,000.00, and to deposit same with the Austin National Bank as trustee, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That said D. B. Gracy, as Treasurer, be and he is hereby authorized to withdraw from the American National Bank of Austin as trustee said Hawaii Bonds and to deposit with the Austin National Bank as trustee said Liberty Bonds of the United States and United States Treasury Bonds-1944-4&, for the faithful observance of his said bond, all other terms of said bond to remain as written, and the Treasurer is directed to execute and deliver to the Mayor his memoranda reciting the above facts and supplemental to said bond aforesaid. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The annual report of Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector, for the year 1924 was read and ordered filed. The reports for December of Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector, A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher, and Mrs. R. C. Walker, Pure Food Inspector, were read and ordered filed. The Council then adjourned. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Kayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Holen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The monthly reports of J. N. Littlepage, City Marshal, W. R.
