AFTERNOON SESSION: The Council met with the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes; absent, Councilmen Nolen and Searight, Councilman Haynes moved that the tax rolls of the City of Austin for the year 1924, amounting to $38,274,100.00, be approved; Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery and Haynes, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Nolen and Searight absent. The monthly reports of Mrs. R. C. Walker, Pure Food Inspector, W. R. Davis, Bookkeeper Bewer Department, and Jno. W. Pfeiffer, City Sexton, were read and ordered filed. The Council then adjourned. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Avery moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Judge W. L. White, Attorney for C. D. Kinney and wife, appeared before the Council and asked that it take some action with regard to Kinney Avenue. Councilman Haynes moved that the following resolution be adopted and that a page of the Minutes be set aside for the recording of same. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. 385 386 Ripe in years and rich in the things that make life worth while, Frank M. Maddox has passed beyond this life. As our tribute to his worth, We, the City Council, hereby express our lasting esteem for his memory and our high estimate of him as an honest and highminded citizen He will be remembered for his long service as Alderman and Mayor of Austin, and for his intelligent and forceful administration of public affairs while serving the people of this community. It is resolved, that a page of the Minutes of this Body be set apart to record this expression of our grief, that same may be permanently preserved in the public archives. ****** ** ********************************************* Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, it appears from the records of the Assessor and Collector that the Board of Equalization fixed the value of the improvements on 48 x 92 feet of Lots 11 and 12, Block 96, assessed by Capitol Lodge No. 23 1.0.0.F., for the year 1923 at $2200.00 and that in reporting their action to the Collector erroneously gave the value as $3200.00 and the taxes were paid on said erroneous value, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Clerk be and he is hereby instructed to issue a warrant for $23.50 covering the amount paid on such erroneous value. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, Superior Incinerator Company of Texas has completed the garbage incinerator plant for the City of Austin under the terms of its contract with the City, dated October 18, 1924, and said plant has been operated and tested by said Company for the period of time required by said contract, and it has been found by the City Council that said plant complies in all respects with the obligations of said Company in the construction of same; Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That said garbage incinerator plant is hereby accepted from the Superior Incinerator Company of Texas as completed and the City hereby releases said Company from all further obligations under said contract, save and except the certain guarantees as to performance of said plant and as covered by the terms of said contract and the bond to assure same heretofore given to the City by said Company; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Clerk be instructed to issue, and the Mayor to execute, a warrant for the sum of Thirteen Thousand, One Hundred, Five Dollars ($13,105.00), payable to Superior Incinerator Company of Texas out of the Incinerator Bond Fund, as the full and final payment to said Company by the City for the construction of said plant under said contract and that said warrant be delivered to said Company upon its proper acquittance of any further claims under said contract. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of O. A. Copeland to erect an electric sign at 203 Congress Avenue was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of the English Sign Company to erect a sign at 903 Congress Avenue was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Schulz, Superintendent of Nurses at City 387 388 Hospital, Miss Nellie M. Hall, Secretary United Charities, W. R. Davis, Bookkeeper Sewer Department, and J. N. Littlepage, City Marshal, were read and ordered filed. The report of C. N. Avery, Superintendent Water, Light and Power Department, for the year 1924, was read and ordered filed. The Council then recessed. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, February 24,1925. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Searight, 3; absent, Councilmen Avery and Nolen, 2. The Mayor introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Tax Rolls and records of the City of Austin for the year 1922 show Lots Nos. 1, 2 and 3 in Block No. 148 assessed by the City Tax Аввеввот for taxes for said year 1922 in the name of "Parsonage, First Methodist Church" at a total valuation of $13,310.00; and WHEREAS, it has been shown to the Council that the South 110 feet of said lots belong to the First Methodist Church, dedicated and used solely for purposes of religious worship; and that no part of said south 110 feet of said lots has ever been used for parsonage purposes; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS: That the City Assessor and Collector of Taxes be and is hereby instructed to correct the said Tax Rolls and Records of his office for the year 1922 to show the south 110 feet of Lots Nos. 1. 2 and 3 in Block No.148 "exempt" in the name of First Methodist Church, leaving only the north 50 feet of said lots assessed in name of "Parsonage", First Methodist Church", at a valuation of $3500.00. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes and Bearight, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Avery and Nolen absent.
